Podcast: MSNBC's Rachel Maddow comments on Gov. Palin, Republican convention

Rachel Maddow, the outspoken Air America Radio political commentator who starts a new show on MSNBC on Monday, shares her thoughts on the Republican National Convention on this episode of "Under the Bus" with The Chronicle's media writer Joe Garofoli.

Maddow, who hails from Castro Valley, comments about the current convention hearkening back to Pat Buchanan's "cultural war'' speech in the 1992 convention.


"The cultural wars are back on, baby,'' Maddow says in this interview done during the last day of the convention in St. Paul, Minn. However, she adds that the Democrats also don't seem to be ready to stand up to fight it.

She also comments about how Republicans are turning questions about vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin into an attack on media.

The Castro Valley High graduate and Stanford alum is preparing for the launch of her new "The Rachel Maddow Show'', which will air weeknights on MSNBC. She continues to host her radio show on Air America Radio.

Pat Robertson and his ilk want her dead, get it? The RW fundies have said so many times over the past 20 years. They want me and my friends dead too, and we're not even lesbians, we're just feminists and Goddess worshippers. They want my husband to fry in Hell for eternity, and all he did was be born Jewish.

Rachel speaks for a lot more people -- male and female, gay and straight -- than you can possibly imagine. Under the current circumstances, the last thing she, or any of the rest of us, should do is remain silent.
