A Katrina Satire
(If you're familiar with the works of Alexander Pope, it might be easier. It's still a work in progress. Notes at the end.)

Officials pool and stand in fetid words
(mosquitoed volts of power for your vote)
the repeating cycle of bravado’s roar:
have faith in Jindal, Nagin, and the Corps,
let Broussard pump away the sludge and slugs:
the Shrub, the Shotgun Oak and Sugar Cane
who Pale before the candy, and cavort
with loofahs, heinie ties and oxy-smokes

(Louisiana has lots of mosquitoes, the power outage has everyone outraged, Jinal's governor, Nagin's mayor of New Orleans, Corp of Engineers, Broussard's president of Jefferson Parish - next to N.O.) - the rest of the references you should get, except maybe that Cheney is French for oak tree.)

1. Satire is hard to write.
Yours is good, but might fly over the head of most people not used to poetry that doesn't rhyme!

LOL!

Here's my spoof of the Ken Burns movie "The War", which was about four different American towns and how they were effected by World War 2. I call it The Storm and it's about how four corporations were able to profit off Hurricane Katrina, the storm in the title.

Mine is also unfinished (which is how I know how hard it is to write good satire), but if you (or anyone else) is so inclined, you're welcome to come over and try your hand at finishing it.
