Haiti facing storm 'catastrophe'
Haiti faces a "catastrophe" after being hit by a series of storms in recent weeks, President Rene Preval has said.

Three storms in less than 21 days have killed 170 people, Haitian officials say. The British Red Cross says some 250,000 people are stranded.

Tropical Storm Hanna killed 61 people and caused floods several metres deep, stranding people on rooftops.

Mr Preval warned that Hanna could prove even more deadly than Hurricane Jeanne, which killed more than 3,000 in 2004.

Hanna swirled over Haiti for four days, dumping massive amounts of rain, blowing down fruit trees and swamping tin-roofed houses.

3. Thankfully, it would appear that Cat 4 IKE will miss Haiti

However, the Bahamas, south Florida, the keys, and Cube may not be so lucky.

If it misses all of the major land masses and shoots the gap into the gulf... we will have another Gustav or worse.

4. It's unbelievable what's going on in Haiti
people were on rooftops yesterday looking for international peace keepers to rescue them.
As long as the Washington consensus controls the economy they don't give a flying fugg. We have people from our ODPEM heading there today.

5. Yep, we can send a billion to Georgia quick as a wink
But nothing for our neighbors who have done nothing to deserve this. One of many things that I hope changes in the next admin.
