Hurricane IKE.... the real moster hurricane....

Seen in the far right corner. The larger storm is actually Hannah.

Based on its strength, and the strong possibility it will not pass over any large land masses before landfall, this storm could take up most of next weeks news cycle too. If it hits SE Florida, there will be massive flooding as well as perhaps the first 100 billion dollar storm.

2. Maybe...
...Once Ike edges closer to the track Hanna took before him, the hot water that feeds these things will be in shorter supply as Hanna will have not only cooled water temps via rainfall and cloud cover but also from the churning of the seas.

3. I didn't know that
one storm would cool the water. Neat. I love learning odd new facts like that.

4. It will cool it more than it would be...
...had the storm not been there. Meteorologist Jeff Masters touched on this in his weather blog in the last day or so. Hurricanes following the tracks of immediately previous storms don't get as strong as they would otherwise.

5. as I understood it from some further reading... Hanna isn't strong enough
to churn the waters, affecting the cold water to rise as would be needed for any marked difference to a strong IKE.

I do however hope I've misunderstood that, or that the information itself is incorrect. On the other hand, if Hanna is strong enough, she may be paving a way by weakening troughs, allowing s higher probability for IKE to follow her path.

6. Ike is a cat 3 now if you didn't pick that up from the map.
It is currently rapidily intensifying.

Of course that cat 3 is just a guess as recon won't be out there until Friday.

Its probably a category 4 right now (or close), in my opinion.

8. This has Central/South Florida's name written all over it
Models are split among where the recurve will occur, but some of the better names -- NOGAPS (the Navy's model) and GFDL for instance -- have South Florida in the bulls-eye with a rather bad landfall. Please keep an eye on it, FL folks, because it looks like it may have its eye on you!

9. Way too much irony for my blood!
Gustav hits the soft belly of the Bu$h GOP (New Orleans) on day one of the GOP Convention. On day two a storm named Ike becomes a weather monster. GIVE 'EM HELL WEATHER GODS!
