"Speech she will read initially drafted for an unknown man." I heard that right?

Andrea Mitchell said the speech was massaged to fit Palin in specific, but the gist of it was that the body of speech preexisted.

You heard that too?

If true, she is a maveric!!!

3. If true, how does this "introduce her to the country"?
You're right. Speech reading. But hey, I'd hate to read from a teleprompter for the first time front of 25-30 million, so maybe there is some challenge there.

5. But, its not about how she controls her nerves, it is about
the fact that these are not her own words or thoughts.

4. Well, given my sincere caveat about hearing it correctly
My quote is not direct, but I think fairly close to what I *think* I heard. Sincerely looking for confirmation here and later on tonight from other outlets, etc.

6. this was on the nat'l news tonite
either CBS or ABC, i was flipping back and forth.

one of the speechwriters/campaign hotshot made the same type of observance about it being re-written since it was 'too masculine' or some shite.

10. Yep that's what Mitchell said
But what got me was the implication that beyond telling her story and lines about the last few days, it means she's just reading a canned McCain Co. construct. And that whoever was picked would have read the same thing?

Whaaaaaaaaa?

7. Heard the speech was written for a man, then revised for Palin.
I may be imagining this part - to make it more femine. ????

9. Not only that, it was a "very masculine" speech -- whatever the heck
THAT is supposed to mean.

Obviously, the new VP isn't supposed to be thinking for him or herself, so that must be why they didn't consider an empty suit like Palin to be a problem.

12. I read somewhere it was Mittens speech originally,
but the "masculinity" toned down for Carabou Barbie.

13. OK...appears true...attributed to McCain camp
Edited on Wed Sep-03-08 06:43 PM by darkstar
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/postpartisan/2008/09/putting_words_in_palins_mouth.html

There was a flutter of attention when McCain campaign manager Rick Davis told a group of Post reporters and editors yesterday that his team was having to rework the vice presidential acceptance speech because the original draft, prepared before Gov. Sarah Palin was chosen, was too "masculine." While we all wondered to ourselves what might make a speech masculine or feminine, no one batted an eye at the underlying revelation: that the campaign was writing the nominee's speech before knowing who the nominee would be.

With video of him saying it. To be clear, starting from scratch, is seems, but also to be clear, writing it for candidate before candidate was chosen

Wow...

17. I love Andrea Mitchell! OMG! Did I just SAY that out loud????
I was SO hoping the media would point out that she did NOT write that speech they're calling "make or break" for her. It's someone else's words!!! Unless they're judging her reading skills, I fail to see how this speech should have any effect.

19. Attack of the clowns ...uh I mean clones...any clone will do..
They could have put a department store mannequin up there with a speaker embedded in it. Those idiots would have still applauded the same... It's like watching one of those North Korean government rallies only those are more interesting and the crowds more enthusiastic...
