He recoiled like he thought McCain was getting ready to bash his head right off.

1. No, I didn't get to see it

I've spent a good part of my day arguing with the "we should be better than that" crowd.

2. I don't think the wedding will happen. He looked ready to bolt at any minute.
Poor Briston had to try to hold his hand and he was having none of it.

8. Those creepy adults...putting these teens in this situation.
Poor boy...no more hanging out and chilling with his buddies. No more hockey, no prom night, no graduation. Now these teens have to get married for the good of the GOP.

11. Obviously Palin can force Bristol, but can she really force him?
Bristol's the one I feel sorry for.

21. think of his situation -
happy as a clam, using any available vagina for its intended purposes, and unconcerned with the world at large.

now, being pulled into the world stage.

I would HATE that kind of exposure. it gets tiring, like after 20 seconds.

3. That might have been the moment he finally realized...
...his life isn't his own anymore. It's the kind of reaction I imagine an animated chess pawn would get when it was plonked down right in front of the opposing queen.

4. That poor baby daddy.
Here he is, putzing along, knocking up his girlfriend and getting ready to do whatever he wants, not caring about school, or having kids, and suddenly BAM! Into the media spotlight, complete with "they planned on this before having sex and getting knocked up so quit saying that wahhh" stuff. Poor hormonal ridden teen. :sarcasm: to a point, but also serious to a point. Talk about shotgun wedding.

Like "way to nail her kid".

Maybe later they can exchange stories.

ditch her and marry another younger one.

6. Why did McCain slap him on the shoulder?
Usually a shoulder slap says "Hey, good going!" What's so good about what the kid did?

7. I didn't see that, but when I glanced at the TV to see what the guy
looked like, my reaction was "Oh my God, he looks like he 15 years old! I honestly dont think they SHOULD get married! They're both way too young to make a lifelong decision like that, and Grandma should have enough $$ to help her daughter raise the kid. If at some time in the future they still decide they want to marry each other, THEN would be the time to do that.

24. Uh, if she has to be responsible
then so does he. I don't care if he's 12. They don't have to get married, but he doesn't get to go on with his redneck kick ass party life either.

26. Leash? Tracking device?
It's probably his first time in a big city: maybe he's hoping to slip away and see some night life. Or apply for political asylum in Illinois.

I don't think the poor guy knows what he's getting into. It looks as if his own family is pushing him as well. Levi, you can say "I don't" instead of "I do": you'll still be responsible for child support, of course, but Bristol's family is loving and supportive (they said so, so it must be true: I'm sure Gov. Palin will look after it like she does her own), so it will have a good home while you and Bristol get an education to get a good-paying job. And maybe now that you're in the lower 48 you can learn something about pregnancy planning.

In any case, I don't give this union much of a chance. Some day Johnston will realize he's being used as a pawn, and as Bob Dylan said, "In ceremonies of the horsemen/Even a pawn must hold a grudge".
