Daddy, I'm in love... and he looks just like you!

Men tend to wind up with life partners who look like their mother, while a woman is lured to a partner who looks like her father, scientists reported on Wednesday.

Heterosexuals are deeply attracted to individuals whose faces are similar to that of their opposite-sex parent, they said, suggesting that this characteristic is rooted in an evolutionary drive.

A team led by Tamas Bereczkei at the University of Pecs in Hungary created a model of facial ratios -- width of jaw, distance between mouth and brow and so on -- comprising 14 facial zones.

They measured 312 Hungarian adults from 52 different families using this method. Each family included a couple, along with two sets of parents.

The researchers found a significant correlation in facial similarities between a woman's mate and her father, and also between a man's partner and his mother.

2. Hubby's cousin married a man that looks like her daddy.
Not exactly, but very similar traits: receding hairline, tall dark hair, "math" person, into sports in a big way. The groom could have been mistaken for the bride's brother based on her dad.

My hubby looks nothing like my family. None of my boyfriends did.

3. I actually broke up with a young lady...
I actually broke up with a young lady some years back for no other reason than a pal of mine said, "she looks incredibly like your mom." After he'd said that, I began looking at her with a different perspective and that was that.

But, being the caring, kind and considerate friend he was, it turned out he began going out with her the following week. Methinks I was played for a sap. :)

Sorry. I guess we're both Mediterranean though...

People have commented that my wife does slightly resemble my mother. That grosses me out.

5. I was watching the wedding and engagement
announcements in the newspapers for a period of time and noticed that the couple had a strong resemblance to each other which I found very interesting. Not all, but the vast majority did. Take a look at them in your own newspaper for a few days.

6. I can't say I look anything like my Father-in-law
Nor are we alike in our personal behaviors.

I guess I was so fantastic, I overrode my wife's predisposition not to go for me. :)

10. There was one girl that drove me completely nuts.
Both physically, personality, political values etc. She had a boyfriend and wasn't interested but this crush didn't die easily. Then one day I saw a picture of my Mom on her wedding day and she looked just like this woman. That was the end of that. When someone told me she broke up with her boyfriend I really didn't care.
