Ohio school bans cheerleaders' skirts for being too short
Ohio school bans cheerleaders' skirts for being too short

MONROE, OH (NBC) - Cheerleaders in Monroe, Ohio aren't exactly cheering about the school district's dress code.

On Monday night, parents and students came before the school district to complain about a dress code clarification that left cheerleader outfits out of appropriate school wear.

"I'm heartbroken. We work really hard to wear those," cheerleader Ashley Hunt said after the decision.

"They're the one who got these uniforms for us and they haven't been a problem before," Taylor Moore said.

The clarification of the existing policy dictates that all shorts and skirts should be no shorter than three inches above the knee.

The cheerleaders' skirts come up short.

Bastards. Taking all the fun out of watching high school sports :)

1. They should feel bad! Ours
were mid-calf and they wouldn't replace them so we made our own that came to the knee. The powers that be had no problem with them being at the knee, they just didn't want to put out the money for new uniforms.

3. I'm from the generation when girls were required to kneel on the floor and see if their skirts ...

... touched the floor. After this submissive behavior to the dominant 'authorities,' they'd proceed to roll them at the waist again. When I was in junior high and high school, the "conventional wisdom" was that girls who DIDN'T wear panty girdles were tramps. (God forbid they 'jiggle'!!)

I have more than 50 years experience regarding the prurient obsession with fashion as batshit insane.

24. A previous article mentioned that they could wear the uniforms during games and
performances - i.e. when actively cheerleading - but not during the regular school day. That would be the same as every other sport/activity, I would think...

Looks like pretty much run of the mill cheerleader outfits to me.

I suppose some people just have too much time on their hands.

11. Oh come on
watching recently-bloomed nubiles in short skirts do suggestive dances is good clean American fun, right?

Who needs modern textbooks or classroom technology when there's football and cheerleading to fund?

(this is what we call sarcasm btw)

14. I never quite understood the whole cheerleading thing...
Let's get the hottest, cutest girls in the school, dress them up in sexy revealing outfits, and have them do cartwheels in front of a bunch of testosterone-soaked young boys.

Then we will take the aforementioned testosterone-soaked young boys and tell them that every time they even think about looking at Mary Ellen's nice butt, Jesus kills a puppy.

19. You'll probably laugh, but cheerleading is a sport.
Especially when you're talking competition level. It's like gymnastics, but even more difficult because you have to throw each other in the air. There's a lot of work and dedication that goes into cheerleading. It isn't just cute girls standing on the sidelines smiling.

27. Yeah, I know.
I don't deny the titillation factor!

It's kind of like men's ballet. They get a lot of flack, but an NFL player once tried to go through a male ballerina's workout, and couldn't - too hard for him.

28. When I was in high school
There were short skirts, which you really have to have for sports, but turtlenecks and long sleeves too. And then there's the shorts you wear under the skirt.

17. I think it's a sensible rule for high school cheerleaders
3 inches above the knee is still a short skirt.

The cheerleaders at Bob Jones University (BJU)wear ankle-length skirts, according to their flyers. I just love it that a fundamentalist school uses the initials BJU without any irony.
