Fifteen years ago, Sting sang about the fact that politicians remind him of game show hosts. He must have been anticipating the campaign of John McCain. With missteps, misstatements, and scandalous revelations pouring forth almost by the hour, the presumptuous Republican nominee is running a show more worthy of GSN than CNN. The only question is, which game show is McCain hosting? The nominees, please…

Family Feud - Having secured the nomination back in February, McCain has had more than six months to solidify his base, unify the party, and nail down a powerhouse VP candidate. But here we are in the Twin Cities, and he’s failed on all least two of these three missions. The Republicans are trying to put on a brave face for the camera, but it’s clear that there is some deep unrest in this once tight political family. Ron Paul continues to open a rift that is not going to go away. Looks like they won’t be playing for Fast Money this time.

Wheel of Fortune - It seems to be the way McCain makes important decisions. How else do you explain Sarah Palin? It’s as if he took the names of 100 Republicans who looked good on paper, put them all on a giant wheel, and gave it a big spin (while jumping up and down and screaming “BIG MONEY!”, of course). No need for vetting, let the wheel decide! Looks like he might have landed on “Bankrupt” this time.

Who Wants to Be A Millionaire? - When McCain said, “I choose Palin,” someone should have asked, “Is that your final answer?” Or at least have encouraged him to phone a friend or poll the audience. Where’s Regis when you need him?

Whose Line Is It Anyway? - A group of people are thrown into a situation without a script and without preparation, and they fumble around and try to produce some sort of coherent conversation that makes sense and addresses a specific topic. The results are usually comical. Whether that’s the actual game show or the McCain show, I can hear Drew Carey laughing his ass off the entire time.

The Price is Right - From the Keating Five to oil executives to the lobbyists that dominate his staff to Palin’s ties to Ted Stevens; it’s alarming how many people have “come on down” to the McCain campaign to name their price and peddle their influence. (There’s another Drew Carey joke in here somewhere, but I’m just not finding it.)

Win, Lose, or Draw - No, wait, that was the 2000 election.

Most Extreme Elimination Challenge - It’s a Japanese show that features ordinary people trying to do some very difficult and dangerous physical challenges - such as swinging out over a mud pit on a rope and trying to land on a narrow platform. All but a few contestants are in way over their heads, and it doesn’t take long before they’re wallowing in the muck. With this latests round of Palin revelations, and with all the muck that the Republicans are trying to somehow throw back at Obama, McCain’s campaign might be stuck in the mud for good.

Survivor - A large cast of unsavory characters is brought together to engage in ruthless competition, endless scheming, and distinctively unethical behavior. One by one, the field is whittled down until only two finalists are left. Then, the nation gets to vote on a winner. McCain seems like the ultimate Survivor hero, lasting a lot longer in this race than anybody thought he would. But given all of the above, it seems that his game is finally up. And that the Republicans are finally set to get voted out of the White House.
