Why Is Keith Olbermann in New York
Just curious why Keith and Tweety weren't sharing a desk this week...

Is it because of the storm or is he banned from the Repub convention?

1. My scenario?
Someone from the RNC or White House called MSNBC and told them they did not want him covering the RNC. They probably told MSNBC that they'd lose their space at the convention. I seem to recall this was done years ago by the 'pubs, but I can barely remember.

3. I think they got complaints that Olbermann was too much of a "commentator"
to be covering the Thug convention.

Yeah, and letting Joe Scabrous LatteBoy sit around and
trash the Dems for a week ISN'T a problem ...

6. KO was a bad boy last week.
Smacked a few of the sacred cows around last week like Scarface.

I'm not worried - it's cool.
I'm sure he's MUCH happier being there with Rachel.

7. I think it's simple
They don't do well together.

Separate, they're fine. Quite different styles.

I'm glad KO is in New York, to tell you the truth. He's obviously more comfortable there, and, consequently, is doing a much better job.

And he and Chris Matthews seemed to be getting along well together last week.

12. Naw, if the ratings were good,
the suits wouldn't change a thing.

But they were awful together - or so it seemed to me. I turned them off more than once.

9. Yup. Keith not wanted by GOP
and officially per media bistro

One person not returning from his Hurricane Gustav coverage location will be MSNBC's Keith Olbermann. Olbermann led coverage last night from New York, and will now co-anchor prime time convention coverage from MSNBC HQ with Chris Matthews at the RNC.

An MSNBC spokesperson tells TVNewser, "Since the next hurricane may hit on Thursday night, Keith will remain in New York. But, he'll co-anchor with Chris who will be on our Rice Park set."

17. It was one thing to have him there last night,
but him having to stay home all week "on hurricane watch" means only one thing: the media outlets controlled by Rupert Murdoch were successful in convincing everyone that Keith can't coanchor conventions on site because he gets in constant fights with his coworkers. Of course, they only spread this story because they didn't want him at the Repug convention. Still, mission accomplished--MSNBC got scared and banished him to New York. *sigh*

13. MSNBC is saying "political considerations (i.e. backlash from Republicans for having
such a partisan anchor) were not at play.

That is per NBC News head Steve Capus on the record
