RICKY GERVAIS ASKS PRIME MINISTER TO GET RID OF FUR (for ceremonial hats worn by royal guards)

RICKY GERVAIS has urged British Prime Minister GORDON BROWN to halt the commission of black bear pelts for ceremonial hats worn by royal guards.

The Office star has written an open letter on behalf of animal rights activists People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) in which he appeals for Brown to get rid of the Canadian bear fur caps worn by the officers.
He proposes soldiers' hats be made of luxurious faux-fur instead.

Gervais' appeal reads: "The issue I am writing to you about today is not a laughing matter. I understand and appreciate the importance of uniforms, but continuing to use real fur in the 21st century is inexcusable, regardless of 'tradition'.
"The public are relying on you to bring about a humane changing of the guards."

2. Foolish
He wants the Royal Guard to wear anything but real bearskin hats made out of bears they harvested themselves? I think that is ridiculous, and I think all Royal Guardsmen should hunt their own bear for their own hat. The extra can be used to make bear shoes. I really don't think it is "unnacceptable" for them to wear bearskin hats. I do think it would be a tragedy to make them wear "faux-fur" anything. They are the Royal Guard, not Sigfried and Roy.

4. They look silly already, faux-fur would be a step up.
