They are all acting like they know it's the quadrennial family reunion of the most highly dysfunctional family in America. Half of them can't stand their own nominee, the other half can't stand the VP nominee. They have nothing to brag about of in terms of the last eight years, since it's all just been a miasma of corruption, fraud, and misadventure while the economy has gone to hell in a handbasket.

I can completely understand them for wanting to cancel it or changing the venue to the Rubber Chicken Room of the local Holiday Inn.(How many times do you think the name cards at the tables with Ted Stevens and Larry Craig and David Vitter will be switched around?) I also would understand if they all miss their flights, or get laryngitis, or their garage doors get stuck in the down position, or the family pet just won't get into the box on the roof, or a sudden plumbing problem, or an unexpected subpoena could keep them from showing, no matter how much they really would love to be there for the group photo with their fellow miscreants oops! I meant lawmakers.

They should just do what we all do - send a last minute fruit basket with regrets.

1. Such irony for the party of "family values"
Just wish most people would see how hypocritical they are. I know the Democrats are dysfunctional too but at least we don't espouse to be on the moral high ground. And we get called the snobs. Yeah.

3. "Lets' call the whole thing off."
Things have come to a pretty pass.
Our romance is growing flat;
For you like this and the other,
While I go for this and that.
Goodness knows what the end will be,
Oh I don't know where I'm at.
It looks as if we two will never be one
Something must be done:

You say ee-ther and I say ie-ther, You say nee-ther and I say nye-ther
Ee-ther, ie-ther; Nee-ther, nye-ther; Let's call the whole thing off.

You like potato and I like potahto, You like tomato and I like tomahto
Potato, potahto; Tomato, tomahto; Let's call the whole thing off.
:-)

4. In their case shouldn't it be a NUT basket instead of a fruit basket?
