Bush, Cheney Will Not Attend GOP Convention Due to Hurricane (Fox)
DEVELOPING: President Bush will skip the Republican National Convention on Monday and instead travel to Texas to meet with emergency workers and people who evacuated the Gulf Coast as Hurricane Gustav bore down.

Bush said he was assured that New Orleans’ levees “are “stronger than they have ever been” during a briefing Sunday at the Federal Emergency Management Agency. But he said people across the Gulf Coast and in New Orleans need to understand there is a serious risk of flooding from a storm of this size.

Bush says he will hold off traveling to Louisiana because he doesn’t want to get in the way of emergency personnel.

Vice President Dick Cheney will also not attend the Republican National Convention on Monday as scheduled because of concerns over Hurricane Gustav, the White House announced Sunday. First Lady Laura Bush, however, is still expected to address delegates on the opening day.

Texas where he would prefer to be and McCain gets to skip being seen all lovey dovey with the worst president ever.

Edited to add- Why isn't Cheney going? If the idiot in chief is staying back to be ready for anything then there is no reason that Cheney can't do the VP job of being the to represent the WH. Unless idiot needs someone to actually run things while he plays on the farm.

7. I'm sure Cheney is very concerned with the welfare of the people.
Or maybe Karl told them it would help the convention if they stay the hell away from it....

8. "...levees “are “stronger than they have ever been”
McFuckwad had to say that so afterward all BushCo members and talking heads can state, " No one could have anticipated a breach in the levees."

And, when the official and National Guard show up late again, they get to say, "They serve at the pleasure of the President."
(THAT stupid phrase always gives me a mental picture of all those President-Pleasurers not being released to do their jobs until they make the BoyKing laugh while he sits on his throne. :puke: )

12. That fool wasn't listening to Nagin last night
Nagin ran down the list of weak spots and unrebuilt spots in the levees, by way of telling people the levees probably WILL fail.

14. Nagin is trying very hard to NOT become the scapegoat this time
Good for him.
But, evacuations are being stymied by those Florida-contracted buses not showing up, gas stations out of fuel already.
(hmmm...Florida...why am I such a skeptic? :eyes: )

And, there are still NOLA denizens opting to remain.

10. OPERATION WHITEWASH
Everything RNC talking point related is about getting people on TV to stop talking about GWB/Cheney/Conservatives...

Even the Democrats refuse to make this not about McCain as a person, but the party and administration that has led this country into
a massive shithole the past eight years.

DURING KATRINA, BUSH FLEW OVER NEW ORLEANS TO GO TO JOHN MCAINS BIRTHDAY PARTY!!!!

I can't believe they are going to get away with this.

13. The circus is in town.
This cult of bigots, disguised as a political party, will go to any lengths to erase the onerous images of the current administration with their latest slight of hand trick.
So they'll settle for the former campus pot queen (not that there's anything wrong with that!) to put happy face on the carnage left by her now-infamous husband.
Ringmaster McCain, whose face has apparently been cryogenically frozen in a smile (at least until the debates) and their latest sideshow attraction and poster child for manic-depression (can't you just see this on her face?), Sarah Palin, will attempt to transform the party of chains into the party of change.
The current WH occupier was slated to deliver a speech trumpeting the success of the failed occupation of Iraq. I'm sure that the reworked GDP number would also be displayed as further proof of how well off we are - even more well off than their message.
Why not bring on some failed CEO's to bear witness as to how incredibly wealthy they became in a bad economy - even as they steered they companies into a ditch? Free markets at work!
Think of all the work hours created by the construction of their McMansions and all the service staff jobs created!
The maverick will ride in on a promise to restore order to the corruption that he has presided over for 25 some odd years. He along the brings the winner of the missing checklist qualification contest. Guns? check, Abortion? check, Evangelism? check, Woman/minority? check.
The big tent has come to town.
