''Out of Gas'' Signs Hit the Upper Midwest!

''Out of Gas'' Signs Hit the Upper Midwest
By BLAKE NICHOLSON,

2008-08-29

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Industry officials say they are mystified by fuel shortages at terminals in the Upper Midwest in recent days, but they expect enough supplies for the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Terminals have run out of fuel in West Fargo and Grand Forks in North Dakota; Alexandria, Minn.; and Sioux Falls, S.D.

Officials are trying to figure out why.

"That's the million-dollar question," said Dawna Leitzke, executive director of the South Dakota Petroleum and Propane Marketers Association.

Mike Rud, president of the North Dakota Petroleum Marketers Association, said industry officials are investigating what is behind the supply glitches, especially since demand for fuel has been down this summer.

"We're being told demand is outstripping supply at this time," he said. "Many of us are having a hard time believing that."

2. No but then we Californians pay the most in the nation for gasoline

Even though we have plenty of refineries and even oil fields here (Bakersfield)

So I suspect Californians will be the last people to see "out of gas" signs in their area.

4. Probably BushCo scared pissless that they will be caught unprepared for Gustav
so they probably comandeered as much as they could in prep for the storm.

They got caught flat footed on gas supplies in 2005.

5. They are simply trying to drive up prices.
By faking a shortage. No mystery there. They can use Gustav/Labor Day weekend as cover for their price gouging later on.
