To the Editor,
As a vocal advocate for veterans’ issues, I was delighted to hear that Barack Obama chose Joe Biden as his running mate. With these men at the helm, we will have two of the biggest proponents for veterans’ care in the nation.
Sen. Obama reintroduced the Lane Evans Veterans Health and Benefits Improvement Act to improve the VA’s planning process to avoid budget shortfalls in the future. He has been a leader in fighting homelessness among veterans. He authored the Sheltering All Veterans Everywhere Act (SAVE Act) to strengthen and expand federal homeless veteran programs. He introduced an amendment that became law providing food services to wounded veterans receiving physical therapy or rehabilitation services at military hospitals. Previously, they had to pay for their meals.
Senator Biden helped enact numerous measures to improve the delivery of health care services for our nation’s veterans, help those returning from Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom readjust to civilian life and assist family members who provide much needed love and support for our wounded warriors. He was successful in getting a provision attached to the National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2008 that is designed to prevent budget cuts to military medical facilities while the nation is at war. He cosponsored both the stand-alone Dignity for Wounded Warriors Act as well as the Dignified Treatment of Wounded Warriors amendment that was attached to the National Defense Authorization Act. He helped Congress enact several measures to help those with PTSD and TBI.
Together, these men will see that our veterans get the care they so desperately need. As the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan rage on, our toll of wounded soldiers will do nothing but increase. Consider this when placing your vote in November.

" As usual, the truth speaks far louder than the punditry.
I can't believe we're still having the same old argument about who supports the troops more. . . on the one hand, we have folks like Senator McCain who vote against enhancing and protecting the GI Bill. . . on the other hand, we have Senator Obama.
Thanks for presenting the facts so well. "

" Thank you Beth for the information you provided. I hope that my fellow Americans care enough about really supporting the troops, to take a moment and think about them before casting their vote. "

" Excellent letter. You would think that John McCain, a veteran himself, would be strongly for veterans as well. However, when you're as out of touch as McCain and have been on the government dole your whole life, you might not think of your fellow soldiers. Perhaps that is why overseas military are giving to Obama at a 6-1 rate over McCain? "

" Who is this vocal supporter of the Vets, is she the Algae Award wining Beth Dawson ? Other Algae Award winners have included Bill Clinton, Michael Moore, and NBC anchor Keith Olbermann, in other words, an organization of the Left wing of the Democrat Underground, not people know for their support of vets. To garner an Algae Award one must be a hard core left wing Democrat.
The Democrats have historically removed funding for Military Services, and then they complained that Bush did not sent enought troops to Iraq, he sent all we had. The Clinton administration had decimated our military and set us up for the 9/11 attacks. These are the kinds of issues that I as a vet am concerned about.
As a vet, thank you for your vocal support, however as a vet, I had rather you support our troops in the field. For the most part vets are not looking for a handout from the government, nor do we want to be marginalize as a interest group willing to sell our political support for monetary support. Having served 20 years on active duty and now some 28 years as a retired member, let me assure you that I have been provided the necessary support including medical support without the intervention of Joe Biden.
Joe Biden came to Congress at the age of 30 and now at age 65, has been in congress for 35 years without meaningful accomplishments, In the 1988 presidential primary he was forced to withdraw after being found out to be lying about his family's background as miners, and his educational achievements, the final straw being when it was discovered that he had plagiarized a final exam paper while in law school. (reported by the NY Times)
In his 35 years of politics, the only think that he has consistently supported is his own political career.
