Israel One Step Closer to Striking Iran
A Member of the Israeli Knesset made a statement yesterday which was lost in the McCain/Palin coverage. Some say a step closer to a preemptive strike against Israel is a risky place to go.
American politics aside, Israel and Iran are still not getting along, and are very unlikely to get along anytime in the near future (say... the next two thousand years).

With that firmly in mind, the issue of a preemptive strike against Iran is one step closer today than it was last week. As reported in the Jerusalem Post,

Ephraim Sneh a veteran Labor MK who has recently left the party, has reportedly sent a document to both US presidential candidates, John McCain and Barack Obama. The eight-point document states that "there is no government in Jerusalem that would ever reconcile itself to a nuclear Iran. When it is clear Iran is on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons, an Israeli military strike to prevent this will be seriously considered."

1. End of US Military and Economy
When Israel attacks Iran's nuclear facilities the Strait of Hormuz will be shut down preventing oil super tankers from leaving the Persian Gulf which supplies more than 40% of the world's oil supply (Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc.)

Considering we consume more than 25% of the world's oil production, our economy will be paralyzed without our much needed oil. The government will ration oil for consumers and will be forced to reduce our military presence around the world which would very positive.

QUICK STATISTIC:
Out of the 190+- countries in the world, the United States has military bases on 130 of them.

3. Nuke sites
I also like to point out that Pakistan & India are nuke
up with weapons , so i asume Israel will also have a nuke
stockpile.
We all know a nuke site looks like for years to come, try and
restart oil platform that has been nuke.

5. NO MORE WARS FOR ISRAEL
I'm tired of us fighting Israel's wars for it. Screw Israel, if they want to start a war they can finish it themselves or be finished. I could care less.

7. What do you mean, no MORE wars for Israel?
America has never fought a war for Israel EVER!

If you think the American government might use Israel as an excuse to start a war *now*, that's one thing; but please do not blame Israel for Iraq, or for any other war chosen by Bush and such-like!

8. Let's note that he said "WHEN it is clear Iran is on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons"
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 09:52 AM by LeftishBrit
Iran isn't on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons now, and may never be.

This sounds like just one more sabre-rattling threat of the sort that politicians use.

I certainly hope that both sides see sense and that neither starts a war that could lead to thousands of deaths in the region. Those are real human beings on both sides - and in other countries that could get involved - and they should not suffer and die because their leaders go nuts.
