Dobson on Palin: "I've not been so excited about a political candidate since Ronald Reagan."
Dobson Endorses McCain In Wake of Palin Pick
by Neil Munro at National Journal:

In a remarkable reversal, James Dobson, the influential founder of Focus on the Family, enthusiastically endorsed John McCain for president Friday afternoon in a response to McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate. "A lot of people were praying, and I believe Sarah Palin is God's answer," Dobson said at lunchtime meeting of conservative leaders in Minneapolis.

See article for Charlie Black's list of the advantages Palin brings to the ticket

Palin and Her Pastors: “Those that die without Christ have a horrible, horrible surprise”

by Ken Silverstein and Sebastian Jones at Harper's:

During the 2008 campaign the beliefs of various candidates’ pastors has attracted a great deal of attention, especially the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, as well as John Hagee, who endorsed John McCain. So now seems a good time to examine the viewpoints of Sarah Palin’s two most recent pastors, as expressed in their sermons.

Since becoming governor in 2006, Palin has attended the Juneau Christian Center, where Mike Rose serves as senior pastor. Her previous pastor was David Pepper of the Church on the Rock in Palin’s hometown of Wasilla — a church that “was kind of a foundation for her.”

-snip-

From a July 28, 2007 sermon (by Mike Rose):

“Do you believe we’re in the last days? After listening to Newt Gingrich and the Prime Minister of Israel and a number of others at our gathering, I became convinced and I have been convinced for some time. We are living in the last days. These are incredible times to live in.”

See article for more quotes, and links to even more sermons

17. All They Were Ever Full Of, Was Themselves
"Palin and Her Pastors: “Those that die without Christ have a horrible, horrible surprise” (From the OP, article)

Well, I agree with them about one thing: those who do not know Christ or God will have a horrible surprise. Imagine, when they find that it is them.

"Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.
"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
"Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
"And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." Matthew 7:21-23.

I can just imagine these rich phonies for whom Christianity was never more than an ideology, or a fake public display to advance their real cause, strutting up to the Gates of Heaven like they own the place, direct from one of their seven (or is it eight?) houses, with their "I Love Jesus" t-shirts and crosses of gold, worn like jewelry, to be seen by others, and coming face to face with the knowledge that they were never anywhere close to anything but their own interests. By the way, that was that bastard Reagan who started the evil trend of refusing to provide Federal protection and FBI investigative units to abortion clinics, threatened, and after bombings and other attacks, which Pres. Carter had always done.

Yes, Sarah Palin Was Vetted

Yes, Sarah Palin Was Vetted

by dday

It certainly doesn't seem like it, given the stories that have emerged within the past 48-72 hours. But she most certainly was vetted, only not by the McCain campaign. She was vetted by the only group that matters - the super-secretive Council for National Policy.

The CNP deliberately operates below the radar, going to excessive lengths to obscure its activities. According to official CNP policy, "The media should not know when or where we meet or who takes part in our programs before or after a meeting." Thus the CNP's Minneapolis gathering was free of reporters. I only learned of the get-together through an online commentary by one of its attendees, top Dobson/Focus on the Family flack Tom Minnery.

Minnery described the mood as CNP members watched Palin accept her selection as John McCain's Vice Presidential pick. "I was standing in the back of a ballroom filled with largely Republicans who were hoping against hope that something would put excitement back into this campaign," Minnery said. "And I have to tell you, that speech by Alaska Governor Sarah Palin -- people were on their seats applauding, cheering, yelling... That room in Minneapolis watching on the television screen was electrified. I have not seen anything like it in a long time."

Minnery added that his boss, Dobson, has yearned for a conservative female leader like Margaret Thatcher to emerge on the American scene. And while Palin is no Thatcher, "she has not rejected the feminine side of who she is, so for that reason, she will be attractive to conservative voters."

The members of the Council for National Policy are the hidden hand behind McCain's Palin pick. With her selection, the Republican nominee is suddenly -- and unexpectedly -- assured of the support of a movement that once opposed his candidacy with all its might. Case in point: while Dobson once said he could "never" vote for McCain, he issued a statement last week hailing Palin as an "outstanding" choice. If Dobson's enthusiasm for Palin is any indication, he may soon emerge from his bunker in Colorado Springs to endorse McCain, providing the Republican nominee with the grassroots support of the Christian right's single most influential figure.

45. Yes, it's all coming into focus
Who else was there. Tim LaHaye. Paul Weyrich. I can't remember the other names.

I was unaware of CNP. Their Wikipedia page is more informative than I expected. And they have a site: policycounsel.org. Other external links reveal more.

With revelations about her governing style just brought to light in NYT and Time Magazine articles, Palin's profile grows increasingly more alarming.

Over the weekend, dailykos had several diary entries linked to at DU, including the "Sarah Palin: Dominionist Stalking Horse" post. Also discussed was the Southern Poverty Law Center's article about Joel's Army, "Arming for Armageddon."

But Palin's link to the Dominionists was never made so clear as by this Digby expose.

Truly, truly alarming.

46. You know what?
It's true what I said somewhat in jest earlier this weekend.

They're going to try to kill McCain.

They will get their girl on the ticket and either wait for him to die, or help him along.

If I was McCain I would be in a cold sweat.

And what Charlie Black said, also supposedly in jest, about Palin learning at the feet of the master for the next four years, and most doctors expecting him to live at least that long. (Begging the question of how many doctors gave their opinions, and what constitutes 'most.' And what the rest of them think.) Ha ha. I bet McCane just loves those jokes.

These people already have the mechanisms in place to not only GOTV among the Christian right but also perpetrate voting fraud. D. James Kennedy in Florida, dead for a few years now but replaced by whom?, ran it in the South. Rod Parsley in Ohio, linked theologically with Joel's Army, worked closely with Ken Blackwell.

Men of God. Men of God.

Damn.

Edited on Tue Sep-02-08 11:15 AM by Rob H.
Dobson was talking about how he normally doesn't endorse candidates and he (technically) isn't endorsing McCain, but it's pretty clear he feels better now that McCain's running mate is a woman who apparently wants to subjugate women as much as Dobson does, himself. He also proudly pointed out that the only candidate he's ever endorsed was George W. Bush and only then for his run in 2004, after he'd seen how Bush's first term had turned out. That alone should be a crystal-clear indicator that Dobson is a fucking idiot.
