Fundy Family Email....THE END OF NEW ORLEANS?
I wonder ......

Labor Day weekend 2005 brought with it Hurricane Katrina. The name Katrina means cleansing or pure.

Now three years later almost to the very day, Hurricane Gustav looms as a threat to New Orleans.

The Southern Decadence (a celebration of demoralization in America) happens to be held in New Orleans each year on Labor Day.

In 2005 it was cancelled due to Katrina ......

This time, event organizers and attendees are vowing not to evacuate even if hell freezes over in order to insure that this festival of sin will go on as planned.

Could Katrina have been a wake up call from God to New Orleans ??? A chance to start over ????

It doesn't seem that anyone has learned from the past.

Well guess what the name Gustav means .........

'Weapon of God'

Right now all the forecast tracks are suggesting a direct blow to New Orleans and even the possibility of a Category 5 hurricane when it makes landfall.

If this happens, it is extremely likely that this time next week, New Orleans will completely be wiped off the face of Earth with only mud, sand and water left in the aftermath.

Could it be that we are witnessing God's wrath on a community that for years has chosen to turn its back on. moral values.

Just something to think about as we observe the storm's approach.

1. Great reply!
I hope it hits neither locality, of course, but that doesn't look likely.

I wouldn't want to with that on anybody, but somehow it would be poetic justice. Will the movie set hold up to tropical storm force winds?

6. They seem to know what Gustav means, yet...
...they don't know that "Christian" means Christ-like. And this is nothing that their mythological character would hope for, judging by all the mythology.

17. Well, according to my name book, it's Scandanavian and means
"Staff of the gods".

These people like to make stuff up to support their goofy ideas.

Since they've closed all the hotels in downtown NOLA, where are all these "Southern Decadence" revelers suppose to be doing their reveling?

But don't stoop to their level. Seriously, I don't wish this hurricane on anyone. People are going go die and to try to use that to make a political point, whether you're a fundy whack-job or Michael Moore is just sick.

23. There's immorality everywhere, it's true.
Also good people caught in the middle everywhere. I'm an atheist, but if there was a god, I think he would have more precise way of punishing sinners.

15. I don't think I like their God very much.
Why can't their God use his omnipotence to save the "immoral people" from themselves? Couldn't he just make this world a better place so people would feel more inclined to be nicer towards each other?

When he kills people and destroys cities to punish people, it just sets a bad example for everyone - don't try to reason or persuade people to your point of view, just kill them and destroy their property if they act in ways that you disapprove.

Kinda sounds like that guy at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Perhaps he is religious afterall. Too bad he is worshiping a God that seeks vengence instead of one that seeks love and forgiveness. No wonder the world has so many problems.

God, you're doing a heck of a job.

16. Whoever wrote this email...
needs to browse up on etymology a bit. The meaning of 'Katrina' is debated...it could be 'pure'..or it could be 'torture', depending on who you ask. As far 'Gustav'...it means 'staff of the Goths'.

Of course, that doesn't fit for such a great number of them. Just a considerable number of the noisiest.

And while we're at it, why didn't God bring up a blood and acid rain hurricane during the Whole Nation's Decadence celebration, and I'm writing, of course, about Mardi Gras. Is it that God can't get hurricanes to work in February so he settles for the runner-up. I seem to remember from the Old Testament that God wasn't always so subtle that you had to guess at his intent.

Now, the hurricane is hitting oil platforms and is wiping out one of the biggest oil ports in the US. Since you've decided to guess the motivations about God. The lesson is plain: God despises greed, and sexual sinning is just an afterthought.

As for the prophetic names of the hurricanes, we know that they came from on high, written on tablets by the National Weather Service. Obviously, we should put them in charge of the country. Obviously, they'll be right more that George Bush and John McCain will ever be.

Alternately, maybe we should give hurricanes harmless sounding names. Hurricane Fluffy. Hurricane Mr. Rogers. Hurricane Pooti-Put . . .

20. Gustav means "staff of the GOTHS"

Gustav or Gustaf is a male given name of Old Swedish origin, means "staff of the Goths," derived from the Old Norse elements Gautr ("Goth") and stafr ("staff"). This name has been borne by six Kings of Sweden, including the 16th-century Gustav Vasa. It is a common name for Swedish monarchs since the reign of Gustav Vasa.

The name has entered other languages as well. In French it is Gustave; in Italian, Portuguese and Spanish, Gustavo. The Latinised form is Gustavus. A side form of the name in Swedish is Gösta. The name in Finnish is Kustaa. In German, it is also Gustav or Gustaf.

but fundies don't let little things like reality get in their way.

21. The thing about fundies is, that they only choose events
that fit their narrative. If it is a place they despise (a liberal town, a gay festival, a non-Christian country, etc), then it was "God's wrath." But if it was a "heartland" town, or a tornado hitting a Christian church, then the focus is all on "God giving us strength to carry on," etc.

It's all so selective so that they can keep grasping onto their faith.

24. I hope you hit Reply All. Jesus Christ on a Trailer Hitch -- where's the love?
What a mean, nasty, vengeful and petty god to go around killing innocent children and animals and others who did no harm.

Somehow I think this god of theirs bears no relationship to the one Jesus addressed as Abba, Father, or to the one the Psalmist pictured as a Good Shepherd.

Remember, there are a whole hell of a lot of rigs right in the path of "Weapon of God".
