Palin gave up her son's MOS during her acceptance speech! And she wants to be VP?
A blogger on Raw Story pointed this out..

"After her acceptance speech , in front of a worldwide audience , she broke operational security the Military prides itself on . She announced the MOS of her son serving in the Army , and went on to say the exact date and the country her sons unit will deploy to . she has not only endangered the life of her son , but all of the soldiers in his unit . McCain never talked about his sons service for that very reason . I think it shows the lack of judgement on the part of McCain's Camp to not screen her speech and shows her own inexperience on the national stage. For a candidate who prides himself on national security , his vice president just blew that argument out of the water ."

4. I also noticed that, she may wished she took a lesson from the British Royal family.

Harry did not want to put his brothers in arms in added danger. Ms. Palin just told the terrorist Bush/McSame promises to follow to the gates of hell who to look out for. It would be terrible to die as a political stage prop. I wonder if the September 11 date was an added bonus.

5. Forgive my ignorance,,,
I get the general gist of what you're talking about here, but what does MOS stand for exactly? I know that she revealed info she shouldn't have but I'm just curious what that means.

22. Acronym and abbreviation finder.
Whenever anyone posts a bunch of letters you're not sure of check one of two sites:

Acronym Finder, which is safe for work or Urban Dictionary, which might not be safe for work.

6. I thought it was odd she was sooo detailed, considering Biden's son
just said "I will not be here in November"

I remember thinking I was glad he was really vague on the details.

20. Exactly what I was thinking. He was very vague about it ...

... simply asking the crowd to be there to support his father because he won't be around to do so.

But then I expect the Rethugs didn't want to be coy about nominating the mom of a service member, in order to work in her comment saying she wants a President like McCain if her son is going to be in Iraq.

8. She is a featherweight
Let's face it ... she's a nice lady with some really whacky views based on an interpretation of Christianity so bizarre and distorted that it is barely recognizable. She is clueless when it comes to operational security, that is clear. I bet she doesn't know the difference between a Backfire and a SCUD ... and maybe you don't either but you aren't presenting yourself as a candidate for back-up Commander in Chief.

12. Link? Unless he's a special operator etc, I don't see where MOS violates opsec.
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 04:19 PM by TacticalPeek

http://www.marineparents.com/deployment/opsec.asp

And the recurring rotations are public knowledge, announced in the newspapers etc., departing troops are on TV kissing family goodbye and so forth.

Maybe things are different from when I was in, but I don't see where this jeopardizes any mission or places anything at extra risk. This is not like Geraldo drawing diagrams of US fighting positions on live TV.

Link?

16. It may not violate opsec, but it's incredibly stupid anyway..
Palin's son will be an extremely high value target and she just painted a bullseye on his back.

17. Kind of like Joe Biden's son
Even difficult news for the Delaware Democrat personally has added a compelling twist to his case. On Oct. 3, Biden's son, Joseph Robinette "Beau" Biden III, will be deployed to Iraq.

"I don't want him going," Biden told an Iowa state fair crowd a year ago, when, as a presidential candidate himself, he learned that his son's unit would be deployed at some point in 2008.

23. Not sure whether it does...
If her son is in Delta, a Special Forces Operational Detachment Alpha, the 75th Rangers or MAYBE a long-range surveillance detachment in XVIII Airborne Corps, and she gave out this kind of information, then yeah it's an OPSEC problem...starting with the fact he shouldn't have told his mother where and when he was deploying.

If he drives a forklift in 1st Infantry Division, it's not a real big deal. The insurgents already know we conduct troop rotations.
