6. Seriously?
We can't even offer aid to one of our own states. The Port of New Orleans, historically, is one of the most important locations in our nation's history, and our government didn't give a shit about it or its people. Cuba is somewhere beneath that.

12. Georgia is a democracy
Of course we're going to aid them. It makes for good political theater. Aiding a communist country sitting just a few hundred miles from the city we abandoned just 3 years ago, is a political disaster.

17. You think the "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" republicans care about humanitarian theater?
I'm not saying we shouldn't aid Cuba if they're hit hard. I'm saying we won't.

15. No aid to Cuba..our Coast Guard is busy elsewhere...
Edited on Sat Aug-30-08 02:02 PM by lib2DaBone
over in Georgia.. giving aid to the Russians. The Coast Guard won't be able to pick people off the rooftops either. I posted about this on another forum.. and I got flamed by the Freepers. They said that Bush is allowed to send the Coast Guard anywhere he wants and that it is un american to expect the Coast Guard to help us at home.(It is true..Bush can send the Coast Guard anywhere he wants to) They also said that Gustav wouldnt be a hurricane and that I hated America for even suggesting. so.. from gods' lips to the Freeper's.. Hurricane is not gonna happen.

20. That picture speaks for itself.
I'm infuriated that we are part of Bullshit Nation.

Here the Coast Guard is, covering W's ass, while our fellow Americans are in danger, not to mention the Caribbean casualties.

18. Cuba has a great track record of protecting its citizens and recovering
from these natural disasters

Carlos Lage Dávila, vice president of the Council of State, visited Pinar del Río province and confirmed actions undertaken to protect the population and minimize damage.

“Nobody is more expert on hurricanes than the people here, but we must reiterate all the directions as if it was the first time,” he stated.

He called on the population to prepare for a very intensive event and take all necessary measures to initiate the recovery process at top speed after Gustav has passed.

In that context he mentioned the 577 generating units that sustain the main objectives of the economy and services, cable communication with almost all municipalities, and the availability of basic foodstuffs for prior distribution.

On Friday more than 12,900 people living in areas of risk were evacuated and the 6.947 beach and camping vacationists were transported to their homes.

It was reported that the schools of medicine located in the Sandino municipality, with an enrolment of 3,970 students of 27 nationalities, have all the conditions to guarantee their security.

Various medical brigades left yesterday afternoon for localities that are generally left incommunicado by overflowing rivers.

In disaster recovery, we are the ones who should be emulating them.

19. Cuba can handle this. They figured out hurricane preperation & disaster recovery
years ago.

FEMA could learn a lot from them.
