Bill Clinton needs to state over and over again during this speech that Obama IS qualified. He owes
us, and he owes me for all the support I gave him during his campaign back in the 90's as well as my defending his presidency against partisan attacks.

4. Agreed, I was pissed when he trashed Obama..
he had no place doing it. If he wanted to advocate for his wife, fine, but no way should he have been out there trashing another candidate. He forgot who he was, and I lost some respect for him because of it. I think tonight he'll remind us again, I hope so anyway. I'm willing to forgive and forget.

6. that "trashing" went in two directions
DU was Clinton trashing HQ.There is plenty of blame to toss around, I suggest we start with McCain.

9. Nobody here on DU is a former Democratic President..
at least not that I know of, but I agree with you about McCain. I'm sick of the divisiveness. Like I said, I trust that Bill Clinton will do the right thing and heartily endorse Obama tonight.

5. Dee Dee Myers (close to Clinton) was just saying on TV that if it wasn't already in hius speech...
... he would pencil it in this morning.

She would know as good as anybody, I'd think.

8. Gosh, self-important much?
Bill needs to do nothing of the sort. He owes you nothing. He's not even running! You'll just have to deal with the fact that you can't write his speech or put your words into his mouth.

Oh, and it's clear that you are setting the bar so high he can't win. If he says it once, that's not enough? Twice? Nope not good enough for you. How about 3 times? Would you concede that he met your arbitrary personal standards then? I doubt it. Luckily, your setting him up for failure doesn't matter, because you're nobody.

The only question I have that remains is....rhetorical... Who's side are you on?

10. He owes it to the entire Democratic Party to set the record straight..
he needs to endorse Obama without any equivocation, or he shouldn't be up there. Damn straight he owes that to us.

14. it's not up to you or me
his speech will fit in with the overall strategy and, like all the speeches, has probably been subject to editing by Obama. Given his propensity for very long speeches, it's probably had a lot of redlini...er, editing

He may or may not be tasked with testifying to Obama's character. My guess is he's more likely to be tasked with attacking McKeating policies, maybe reminding us how much better off or safer we are (not) than we were 8 years ago and maybe also another call for unity. But them's just guesses. Time will tell.

16. I'm sure he will deliver, but he doesn't owe Obama, me or you jack.
He's retired. He was a good president, so it wasn't difficult to defend his record, unless you were discussing his personal situations.

17. He Owes You Nothing As It Relates To The Sort.
I'm sure he'll call for unity just fine, will support Obama and commend him just fine, and his stating it over and over would be overkill and make him look stupid.
