Is anyone talking about poverty at the convention?
I do not watch the convention gavel to gavel and yesterday almost missed Schweitzer were it not for the crowd getting excited that even CNN had to stop the punditry and focus on him.
Had Edwards given a time to speak - all all other candidates did - he, no doubt, would have talked about poverty. So I wonder whether any other speaker picked up this topic.
were poor themselves, people telling their real stories about factories closing and being out of work and what it's done to them and their families. I wouldn't say that the politicians did as good a job as Edwards would have.
Dem pols did claim credit for raising the minimum wage, talk about the need for health care for all and for early childhood education for all--so you could say they talked about poverty indirectly. They also talked about the American dream of hard work reaping rewards being endangered.
13. I heard a pundit say "Obama will help the working poor" and
he had to interrupt the interrupter to get that out! That's the only time I've heard the term used and I haven't heard the word 'poor' used at all by any of the speakers....
