3. Dr. Masters says the GFDL may be the best model for this storm...
Edited on Tue Aug-26-08 09:46 AM by Junkdrawer
...

Which set of models do you trust? Both solutions are plausible. I plotted up the errors for some of the computer model forecasts made during Fay. While Fay was over Hispaniola and Cuba, the GFDL model made the best track forecasts, among the four main models used by NHC: GFS, GFDL, NOGAPS, and UKMET. This makes me more inclined to trust the GFDL model's forecasts for Gustav, since Fay and Gustav are similar storms.

...

And the GFDL currently has it making a beeline to New Orleans...

4. Right up the middle of the gulf
1. It could go absolutely anywhere once in the gulf waters
2. It could strike NOLA
3. It will give the oil companies another fucking excuse to jack the prices at the pump back up above $4.00/gal
4. Someone will get hit with this one and it probably will be a big one.

8. The timing of Gustav with warm water temps should make everyone pay attention...
... and now we have reports that NOLA has faulty levees constructed which could produce the same results as Katrina.

I would imagine that this one is not going to dissipate until it hits dry land and blows itself out.

Scary stuff ...

9. Right, it looks like a mean sumbitch
and there doesn't seem to be much happening in the atmosphere to shear its top off and turn it into a pussycat.

Everybody on the Gulf needs to keep an eye on this one and STAY SAFE.

13. Your observation is exactly what most concerns me about Gustav...
With nothing to shear those winds it will continue to grow in strength, and worst of all it has the potential of slowing its movement which would put it out over those warm waters gaining strength for a longer period of time.

We have yet to see a Category V hit shore, but this one just might ....

12. Thanks for the update
Local news this morning was talking about a high pressure area in the Gulf and noted that it could either keep Gustav headed due west or help it move up into the Gulf.
