between the DLC and the non DLC, not a chance. Sorry.

14. Huh? What would independent liberals like me do for entertainment then?
Edited on Sun Aug-24-08 12:58 PM by TahitiNut
I get all kinds of jollies watching "loyal Dems" violate their partisan compact.

I'm endlessly amused at self-proclaimed 'progressives' who wallow in the politics of self-interest.

I'm fascinated by self-anointed 'democrats' who think electing a President is about adopting ALL of that individual's policy positions rather than about expecting him or her to govern according to the will of the clear majority on each issue. (Even more fascinating is the fact so few even comprehend the difference.)

19. We are "our leaders" ... it's the adult thing to do.
Edited on Sun Aug-24-08 01:12 PM by TahitiNut
I'm from that fringe whacko group that regards them as "public servants" ... and believe in firing them (and calling the cops) when they steal the silverware.

(And I LOVE Arundhati Roy.)

The only "conformity" I've EVER practiced is when sitting on the toilet.

23. Unfortunately, the populace demands a daddy and/or mommy to guide them.
And, of course, to put their "leaders" on pedestals. God forbid that we proles ever question their omnipotence or omniscience.

15. are those the only options?
Can trolls still bash Democrats?
Can Greens still bash Democrats?
Can liberals still bash DLCers?
Can PDA members still bash DINOs?
Is Zell Miller still considered a Democrat? What about Ed Koch when he endorsed Bush in 2004?

25. I haven't met any Republican sympathizers, personally.
I've met some people whose ideas about what it means to be a Democrat are different than my own, but that's not the same thing. I guess I don't expect people to be carbon-copies of each other. Opinions differ. Diversity is a good thing.

It's a bit juvenile to claim that everyone who doesn't toe your arbitrary line is somehow a "fake" Dem. Blue dogs, DLC'ers, all those people are every bit as much Democrats as we are. We don't like their opinions on some issues, but that doesn't mean that they're "fake." They're just a bit slower to politically evolve. They'll come around.

30. There is nothing arbitrary about Democratic or "liberal" values.
They all reduce to the basic notion of primacy of control over the individual, do "we" (the collective group, such as the government) have the right to force, through use and/or threat of violence, people to surrender their autonomy? If you believe that the answer is yes, you should be a part of the party of authoritarianism, commonly understood (currently) to be the Republiks.

Now, if you want to argue that the Democratic Party is not the liberal party, you have a valid point and history is on your side of that argument. But according to the "common wisdom" Dems are liberal, Repubs are conservative.

Of course, individual persons have their own values, delusions, perceptions, and opinions on a given issue, but the idea that any idea/opinion is equally valid and must be accommodated within this party is fallacious and destructive to the party.

26. There are too many ideological purists that whine and bitch if they don't get their way.
Edited on Sun Aug-24-08 02:13 PM by Odin2005
In the minds of many DUers if you don't agree with them 100% you are not a "real" progressive and threaten to take thier ball and go home (AKA, vote Green). :eyes:

And if it's not the purists, then it's the conspiracy nuts who attack anyone who doesn't believe the latest BS conspiracy theory of 9/11 and the woo-wos spewing "vaccines cause autism" crap.
