Well, isn't that special? Saudi detainees in Gitmo are allowed to call home
Abdulhadi al-Marri spoke firmly into the phone, reassuring the man US officials say is a "sleeper" Al Qaeda operative that a family member was doing well.

Having assuaged his detained brother's concerns about one of his sons, Marri ended the hour-long call arranged by the Saudi Red Crescent Society, a humanitarian organization.

Eighteen family members had driven to Riyadh to speak with their relative, held without charge for more than six years. An "enemy combatant," Ali al-Marri is in a military prison because, unlike Guantánamo inmates, he was arrested in the United States.

The Saudi Red Crescent Society has organized similar calls for half a dozen Saudi detainees at Guantánamo, according to the society's international relations director, Muwaffak al-Bayouk.

That followed a decision by the Defense Department to permit inmates one phone call a year to family, he said.

1. Yes, it IS special!
The man was "held without charge for more than six years."

I thought prisoners were guaranteed rights under the Geneva Conventions. Are you a troll or something?!

3. Did it say JUST Saudi?
You'll begrudge a guy a phone call because the Saudi Red Cresent arranges it for him?

4. One phone call a year?
OMG - do they get to take advantage of their unused minutes for the past 6 years and play catch up?

:argh:

I hate these bastards, if that man was captured in the USofA he is entitled to the due process of our courts and should have been charged and tried by now.

If they have nothing, then he should be released. If they have evidence of his crimes or that he is an accomplice to the crimes of others then they need to charge him and try him.
