fossil fuels etc etc

not exact quotes but i DVR CNN while I watch MTP on the free air waves, can't rewind it right now. I DVR it at 6:00 and can give exact quotes then

11. What she said may not have been too far off because...
Natural gas is cleaner alternative to coal, which is burned for 50% of our electricity, nationwide.

If she said "alternative to fossil fuels", she's wrong, but it's not that huge an error.

She should have said, "alternative to OTHER fossil fuels".

I'll try to catch it on the NBC site....

Thanks. :hi:

it was simply words to the effect that we can use the Pickens plan and use natural gas as an alternative to fossil fuels

22. I kinda agree.. but that was not my point.. She was making a fool out of herself by making the same
basic mistake over and over again

as to the Pickens Plan

IMO we should use more wind power.. LOTS more wind power.

I just don't see the benefit of natural gas powered cars as a staple for the American Public.

Electric cars are more efficient and IMO are inevitable. Investing in the infrastructure needed to make natural gas powered or hydrogen powered vehicles viable just to discard that infrastructure a decade later is a waste.

Skip the transitional phase and move directly to electric vehicles in 10 years.

DISCLAIMER
http://www.dangerouslaboratories.org/h2homesystem.pdf
If you produce the hydrogen for fuel cells by running an electric current through water (electrolysis) and that electricity was produced by solar panels then my above statement is incomplete

26. No, she wasn't making a fool out of herself. Not 1 person in 1000 would agree
with that claim. And yes you can dissociate H2O with an electrolytic current - as has been known for a century, it just is not efficient on a large scale with current technology. It is much better right now to convert the chemical energy in methane directly to mechanical drive trains than to run it through the intermediate steps. There isn't that much of a transitional phase...most IC engines can run perfectly well on lng with minor modification.

32. then not 1 person in 1000 knows that natural gas is a fossil fuel

My disclaimer was to cover the fact that it is possible but should not be part of the discussion because it is not a reasonable choice at this point

as far as lng as a liquid fuel for vehicles

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquefied_natural_gas

snip

LNG is principally used for transporting natural gas to markets, where it is regasified and distributed as pipeline natural gas. LNG offers an energy density comparable to petrol and diesel fuels and produces less pollution, but its relatively high cost of production and the need to store it in expensive cryogenic tanks have prevented its widespread use in commercial applications.

also not a reasonable choice at this point

and it largely agrees with me.

REP. PELOSI: No, it isn't, but you could--again, you could reduce the price at the pump immediately with...(unintelligible). You can have a transition with natural gas. You can have a transition with natural gas. That, that is cheap, abundant and clean compared to fossil fuels. So, so there is a way to transition this instead of doing more of the same. The Bush administration, two oil men in the White House, they want us to believe that the status quo is what we should do and more of it--and more of it, when it will just only keep us in the same place that we are now.

snip to skip irrelevent question about Pelosi's investments

REP. PELOSI: No, no, it was between 50 and $100,000, and it's part of an, you know, entrepreneurial package. This is the package we sign up for, this is what they invest in. But that's not the point. I'm, I'm, I'm investing in something I believe in. I believe in natural gas as a clean, cheap alternative to fossil fuels.

MR. BROKAW: But you're also in a position to influence where the emphasis will be in where we're moving.

REP. PELOSI: Well, that's not--that is, that is the marketplace. The fact is, the supply of natural gas is so big, and you do need a transition if you're going to go from fossil fuels, as you say, you can't do it overnight, but you must transition. These investments in wind, in solar and biofuels and focus on natural gas, these are the real alternatives. You have to ask yourself why, why is the administration not doing this? This is the challenge of our generation. It's a national security issue. President Nixon said we must end our dependence on foreign oil. President Carter said it's a moral equivalent of war. It's a national security issue, it's an economic issue, it's an environmental health issue, and it is a moral issue to protect this environment.

end of quotes bolding is mine

She clearly used the word transition. Natrual gas would be a transition to the non fossil fuels. We complain, rightfully so, about ignorant voters. Well it behooves us not to be ignorant ourselves.

On edit here is the quote again

It's a national security issue, it's an economic issue, it's an environmental health issue, and it is a moral issue to protect this environment.

end of quote

If you can't understand, after reading this paragraph, that she views natural gas as a transition to move from the current fossil fuels we use to non fossil fuels then the fault is yours, not hers.
