This Is Why Coulter is Done For
Read this letter to the editor. It makes pretty clear why Coulter's career is over:

Dear Deborra:

We've never met, but I was born and raised in Siskiyou County. While I was in elementary school, I was a Siskiyou Daily News delivery boy for several years. My route encompassed the town of Weed. Some of my fondest childhood memories are of that paper route – the elderly Italian immigrants who would give me extra tips when it was snowing, and the staff at the town's only law firm who always had an ice-cold soda in the refrigerator to get me through the rest of the route in the brutal summer months...

Today, I saw a listing of newspapers that run Ann Coulter’s opinion column – and was surprised to see the Siskiyou Daily News on the list. That’s why I’m writing to you, and I hope you’ll take a moment to hear me out.

I am a gay man with a very full and rewarding life. I share a home with my partner in New York City, and I have a job that I love. I get back to California – and to Siskiyou County – regularly, but not often enough. Years after my days as a paper boy, when I lived in Sacramento, other gay people would express sympathy that I had grown up in Siskiyou County. Because it is so rural, and fairly conservative, people assumed I must have faced great hostility.

My experience was quite the opposite...Quite simply, Siskiyou County was my home, and people who lived there had known me from the day I came into the world.

In the years since, like many gay people, I have encountered occasional discomfort, disdain or subtle discrimination...Such experiences are to be expected, I think, and I believe they come from a smaller and smaller number of people.

But I don’t think hostility like this has a place in our newspapers today – and I certainly don’t think it belongs in the newspaper that I hand-delivered every day with such pride...I can’t imagine delivering a Siskiyou Daily News edition with Ann Coulter’s column in it, and I can’t imagine any of the customers on my route wanting to read the column.

Thank you for taking the time to read my letter, and for your careful consideration.

Sincerely,

EF

7. What I can't really understand about people like Ann Coulter
and Rush and the Fox Group and all the other republicans that smear and slur, is this. Why do they do it. I know I have posted this before but remember the survey that said most republicans are psychotic.

I think what happens and why we have all this hate and vile from the republicans is just that. They are psychotic. And I don't mean that all are, but I think that psychotic people just gravitate toward the republicans because that kind of behavior is tolerated and encouraged. They have no respect for anyone other than those who are republicans. They try to pretend they are religious. And you know they aren't because Jesus gave to the poor and ministered to the poor and needy. So the more the republicans slur and smear they prove they are far from being Christian.

13. My thoughts on this
I think what motivates alot of repugs is power and to win at any cost. They consider anything and anyone "fairgame" and will stop at nothing to get their message out no matter how vile, repugnant or untrue. They know their core base isn't real bright and even if they affend or lie, its all in name of "god, country, antiabortion, lower taxes, or whatever lunatic ideas that appeal to them. Remember when Bush said early on, "you're either with us or the terrorists?" They wanted people to feel if they didn't agree with him 100% they were supporting terrorists and were responsible for 9/11. They get their message out through fear and intimidation. What I don't understand is how they get away with it? What if the Dem's were attacking an opponents military record or were responsible for even half the failures of the current administration? All I can think of is the standards for republicans is much lower than for Democrats.

10. That's very poignant and touching.
But, there are too many dittobuttheads in America to think coulter is over. As much as I'd like that to be true.

There was a article on DU yesterday about all these Elko Nevada people supporting her. Too bad about that place.

12. Great letter
but does Coulter really make her living from her column? I always assumed she made her money from selling books 50,000 at a time to Richard Mellon Scaife.

17. Erm, one can hope so.
I don't think anyone with any inclination to read Coulter is going to let a letter from a gay man from New York City, no matter how well-crafted, influence their opinion. I mean, the obvious homophobe response is, "EW! A New York homo touched my paper! Quick, what does Ann Coulter say about it?"

Ann's going to have to say something really hateful about the troops in Iraq in order for her audience to drop her. Fortunately, I don't put that past her at ALL. Since we haven't achieved the glorious victory she called for, we're obviously limpwristed losers.
