It's time to call Bush and the Republicans on their bluff - Support NATIONALIZED offshore drilling!
Are they REALLY concerned about the American People and lowering gas prices, OR do they just want to see more record profits for big oil?

Let's see their true colors on this, I personally oppose offshore drilling because of the havoc it will most likely have on the ecosystem, but I think the Republican stance on drilling will collapse once we support nationalized offshore drilling.

It's our oil and it should be our profits!

Tell Pelosi - Nationalized or none at all!

1. I disagree
You know it only takes these guys 4-8 years before they privatize anything!

Sure, they'll go for nationalizing offshore drilling - for about 3 years, declare it a "disaster" and then sell it off to ExxonMobil.

11. Nationalize ExxonMobil and the rest, too.
Norwegian (State-controlled) offshore (including Arctic) exploitation has been clean enough so far, and even the Brits haven't made too much of a mess in the North Sea.

It does look like deeper and deeper water offshore drilling will inevitably happen, all over the world, so the best is to make sure that it's as tightly-regulated and cleanly-executed as possible - and that includes in places like the Gulf of Guinea, too.

3. Right on. I have called for a National Energy Corporation owned by the People of the USA.
We can contract with oil industry professionals to identify, extract, refine and deliver the product located on public lands including the OCS.

The Strategic Petroleum Reserve has been operated by a private sector contractor all along, and no one disputes the fact that the People hold title to the oil it contains.

5. I'd be all for this, based on the Pemmex model
But I don't see it as likely - despite the fact that Pemmex paid for Mexico's National Health Care program AND had room to pay for corruption payoffs.

6. Ha ha! Certainly not likely with Republicans in charge and oilmen in the White House!
But its a good thing to insist on in any comprehensive policy package.

Hey, if we are ready to turn a new page let's turn it.

7. It would be nice, that's for sure
But I don't hold my breath for any of it - not until they learn that this kind of capitalism will bankrupt a state

8. Another "poison pill"
would be to remove the language that says the drilling is subject to approval by the affected state. It should say that since this drilling is a national security issue, the state, let's call it Florida, cannot refuse to allow this exploitation.
