Olympic Spoiler
USA annihilates all comers in the 4 X 4 men and women's relays. The ladies race was really won as a result of Alison Felix's leg but Jamaican born Sanya Richards devoured the Russian in the lead on the last leg. Jamaica take the bronze.

There are no words for the men. USA by a chasm. Good to see Wariner collect gold after he lost out to his team mate in the 400m.

And there endeth the track events. Best ever results for Jamaica. PHEW!!!

the games aren't over yet - high jump finals on now and a few other T&F events.
Can't wait to see the closing ceremony.

They are over for Jamaica - that was our last event. :D

7. Jamaica did great .. I love Jamaica
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 08:28 AM by SoCalDem
We spent 10 days there a long long time ago.. I'm sure the place we stayed has long since been torn down, but it was a very nice vacation.. We stayed at "The Colony".. had our own little beach house :) It was just down the road from Rose Hall Great House...

We had a rental car and ended up one day at Negril..when there was just a little combo barber shop/post office/ grocery store on the roundabout:) No hotels..just miles of accessable beautiful beaches :)

10. We love Negril
and hate Mobay. The beaches in Negril have changed - due to over-development, hurricanes, climate change and pollution, but they're still great (for now).

16. I preferred the 1972 Negril
to the one today. It was the best kept secret in those days. Now they've fugged up the wetlands with all the new hotels and the beach.

8. So do I, but...
guess it's an age difference. Actually a big age difference.

I'm still trying to figure out if Bolt can catch a football. Chargers? Would have to learn to like tacos though.

He was phenomenal.

9. A gold medal (Richards) and a Super Bowl ring (Aaron Ross - NY Giants)
They plan to get married sometime in 2009.

Sure to be some good write-ups and TV clips about this in the NYC metro area. I just might switch from watching some Olympic coverage to the exhibition football game tonight just to find out about his reaction.

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

And a BIG UP for the Jamaican sprinters this week.. Yah Mon! Immense Respect.

11. She was the favorite for 400m but faded
Edited on Sat Aug-23-08 08:41 AM by malaise
maybe the weight of that massive diamond kept her back :D

Please note this from her profile.

Born in Jamaica, Richards moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, with her family at age 12 because her parents thought the U.S. would be a better place for her to continue her track career. Her younger sister, Shari, is a sprinter and long jumper at Texas. The two sisters live together in Austin.

She had already won all the events at prep school by 12. Jamaica has the best track program on the planet from age seven.

add.

17. These Olympics were great, opening ceremonies magical.
Kudos to the Chinese.

My major regrets: Dropping of batons and boxers. And, maybe slanted scores for the Chinese gymnasts. But, our gals did great. However, these are minor criticisms. Can never forget Phelps.

Total medal count: (No numbers, but this will be the final ranking)

1. USA
2. China
3. Russia

Powers?

And we love this gesture
http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2008-08/23/content_9647410.htm

Triple Olympic sprint gold medalist Jamaican Usain Bolt on Saturday made a personal donation of 50,000 U.S. dollars to children in the earthquake-stricken Sichuan Province, and wished people there to "get through from the tragedy" and move forward with the inspiration of the Olympic Games.

"We came here, tried to perform well," said the Jamaican, who claimed the gold medals in men's 100m and 200m sprint as well as the 4x100m relay at the Beijing Olympic Games. "I hope people enjoy the games, forget the past and move on."

"You have to move forward after the disaster. And also, the Olympics ask people to move forward," he added.
