Obama: 'McCain is a Country Club Republican'
from HuffPo: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/22/obama-ad-mccain-is-countr_n_120669.html

Democrats were ecstatic after the Obama campaign released yesterday's hard-hitting ad on John McCain's house gaffe, and there are no signs of let-up.

A new Obama spot released this afternoon, "Out of Touch," accuses McCain of practicing "country club economics," and hammers him on a range of statements about the economy. "How many houses does he own? John McCain says he can't even remember anymore. Well, it's seven. No wonder McCain just said the fundamentals of our economy are strong, and anyone making less than five-million-dollars-a-year is middle-class."

The Obama campaign says they've dispatched surrogates and supporters to 9 battleground states to talk about "how out of touch all of Senator McCain's years in Washington have made him."

Some Dems are even using the furor over McCain's houses to draw attention to issues unrelated to the campaign. News broke yesterday that the White House "is missing as many as 225 days of e-mail dating back to 2003 and there is little if any likelihood a recovery effort will be completed by the time the Bush administration leaves office, according to an internal White House draft document."

Rep. Rahm Emanuel told the Huffington Post, "In the last two days, we learned that the White House can't keep track of its e-mails and John McCain can't keep track of his houses."

from the Boston Globe: http://www.boston.com/news/politics/politicalintelligence/2008/08/obama_mccains_c.html

"Call it 'Country Club Economics,' the announcer says, as footage appears of McCain riding in a golf cart with former President George H.W. Bush. "How many houses does he own? John McCain says he can't even remember anymore. Well, it's seven.

"No wonder McCain just said the fundamentals of our economy are strong. And anyone making less than five-million-dollars-a-year is middle-class," the announcer continues, with images of McCain meeting with the current President Bush.

"Maybe McCain thinks this economy is working for folks like him. But how're things goin' for you?" the narrator asks, with an image of a worried looking couple.

"John McCain," it says on screen. "We just can't afford more of the same."

7. Thank you, Boston Globe, for inserting this lovely turn-of-phrase:

"But how're things goin' for you?"

Yes, because making it seem like Obama is disingenuously playing to that "down-home, folksy appeal" demographic is really all about upholding the standards of journalistic integrity, now isn't it?

Christ on a fucking Triscuit cracker, I so utterly loathe the fifth columnists in the Corporate Media...

P.S. Maybe it's my West Virginia heritage, but I get the distinct feeling that that line penned by a Northern publication was meant to be read with the southern accent firmly in the mind of the reader, to say nothing of the outright racist "Mammy" or "Uncle Tom" stereotype that seemingly lies at the forefront of the underlying sentiment.

Or maybe I'm just a little too drunk on this fine Friday evening / Saturday early-morning (technically speaking, of course)...

Either way, the fast and loose grammar-and-spelling hatchet job raises my hackles.
