TYT: A Noun, A Verb and POW (Is McCain Overplaying The POW Card?)

By Cenk Uygur

McCain has jumped the POW shark. As Rudy Giuliani is to 9/11, John McCain is to POW. To paraphrase Joe Biden, "There's only three things he mentions in a sentence: a noun, and a verb and POW."

, McCain has gone to the POW well over and over. His healthcare plan is challenged -- POW! Cheated at Saddleback Forum -- POW! Woodstock Museum -- POW! Can't remember how many houses he has -- POW!

But . He used it masterfully when he was accused of carpetbagging in his first run for Congress in Arizona (he's not originally from Arizona, he moved there to run for Congress in his new wife's hometown). When his opponent asked him what was the longest he ever stayed in one place, , "The place I lived longest in my life was Hanoi." If he had left it there, it would have been perfect.

But the man who claims to be humble about his service in Vietnam has gone on to exploit his war record for the rest of his career. A once wrote that John McCain is so gracious in that he never mentions his service in the war, as he was quoting John McCain's book which revolves around his service in the war. Even the press didn't get the irony of all this -- .

Now, and played the POW card one too many times...

For The Rest Of The Article, .

2. The funny thing is, it's not JUST the MSM that's scared to touch this issue
I notice that even many fellow DUers are scared. A lot of people just slowly back away...

3. I just posted that same opinion on the video thread.
We feel guilty if we think poorly of him in any capacity that has to do with his POW-ness.

I can imagine that that would be something that would change and shape your life. But he is using this part of his history as a cheap political tool. :grr:

Recommend!

10. Yes, big time. He reminds me of a bratty kid I knew when I was
young; her dad died tragically and unexpectedly, and she used that as an excuse for even brattier behavior, and if anyone called her on it, she'd cry, "You can't say that to me! My daddy died!"

Understandable, from a five-year old. From a grown man? Not so much.

17. He's Cheapening What A POW Is
Back in "the day", I had a POW bracelet and many of us made sure these people, including Gramps, wasn't forgotten during their captivity...as well as trying to reach out to these people once they came home. POWs were the ultimate heroes and victims of Vietnam and most came back, put their lives back together and moved along. Only one has tried to cash in...Gramps...and that was well and good if the folks in Arizona bought into it, but all this crying POW is a dis-service to those who suffered longer and harder than Gramps...using his captivity for all sorts of wrongs he's committed since his captivity. Many who returned from Nam didn't find a sugar mama or enjoy however as many homes this dude can crash in...many ended up in the streets, divorced and unable to maintain relationships and still sleep with the horrors of that forgotten war. Shame on Gramps for exploiting his captivity for personal gain.
