Democrats want to re-write the Patriot Act
but aren't they the ones that wrote it in the first place? It was written in the Clinton years and Republicans blocked it every time it came up. That is why it was so readily available after 9-11. I agree it needs to be re-written or tossed completely but let's not be ingenious about it..It was our idea and it was not a good one. So where do we take it from here?

1. Legislation can be re-examined, re-written, and totally re-hauled
as Congress sees fit.

No reason to hold back on this one piece of legislation at all, and plenty of reason to re-haul it.

Let's have at the damn thing.

2. Rescind it. All of it.
Since nobody's read the damn thing all the way thru, we haven't a clue what's really in it anyway. Toss that fascist piece of crap and start over.

Toss ALL the BushCo legislation instead of patching it. Like we'll be patching Daylight Saving on every damn machine tomorrow.

6. To avoid legal difficulties, I'd stop just short of the shootings, but I'll
gladly help pay for the matches.

Hi, leftofthedial. Nice to see you this morning on DU. 'Hope all's well your way.

8. Not bad. But eager for springtime temps and even more eager to
begin the caucus/primary season next January.

We could do it tomorrow, in fact.

11. That's right -- you get to host the big show this time. I think Denver
is a great choice. Dean will get the labor issue resolved & it's going to be a really historic convention.

Hat's off to Denver on this one.

4. I say abolish it altogether
I've seen no evidence that the laws that were already in place were not working.

the ones that drafted the Patriot Act, I am totally against giving out unlimited power to
anybody, it's an excuse for abuse. I have since discovered that the principal authors
were Dinh and Michael Chertoff, yep, sounds like dems to me.

NOT.
