Note bearing Gwatney's name, unknown phone number found in Tim Johnson's house (Murderer of Gwatney)
Investigators have issued a subpoena for a phone listing in an attempt to find a connection between a phone number written on a note by the gunman who fatally shot Arkansas Democratic Party Chairman Bill Gwatney, according to the Morning News.

A note with a phone number and the name "Gwatney" written on it was found by police in the home of Timothy Dale Johnson, the 50-year old man who shot the senator several times on Aug. 13 at the state Democratic Party's headquarters in Little Rock.

Investigators say they expect the subpoenaed phone listing in two to three weeks.

Johnson, a former Target employee with no criminal record, was shot dead by police during a 30-mile chase that ended in Grant County the same day.

1. Couldn't they just call the number and see who answers?

2. Maybe they did, but maybe to divulge that info now might hamper the investigation.
Maybe the person who answered has nothing to do with anything, and to release his name in connection with this story would be bad for him.

We don't know yet. Let's just be patient and let LRPD do its job.

3. I'm sure they already know whose number it is
They would still have to subpoena the records for use in court. One would assume they aren't going to release the information during an ongoing investigation, but then again they did release the fact that they found a phone number in the first place.

5. But announcing that they found a phone number isn't the same as
announcing whose number. Perhaps the owner of the number is a target of the investigation. Don't want the media rushing to muck that up. Maybe he isn't conected at all. Don't want the media making an innocent person's life hell.

Just wait.

6. I agree it's not the same
I'm not at all suggesting they should release it, in fact I am questioning the wisdom of releasing any information about what they may or may not have found so far.
