I have question about "Don't ask, Don't tell".
If a service member is outed or tells, what type of discharge do they receive?

If they served honorably, and committed no high crimes, treason or misdemeanors, they obviously shouldn't get a Dishonorable Discharge.

I don't think a Bad Conduct discharge would apply, since they weren't charged with a crime.

An Honorable Discharge, or a General Discharge under Honorable Conditions would seem most likely to me.

At least, with the Honorable, and General under Honorable Conditions, you qualify for full VA and service benefits.

Anybody know?

1. I would assume they get a Dishonorable Discharge, since they broke code

2. dishonorable
is all I've ever heard which in itself is a crime. They took them in the military.

3. General under Honorable conditions. I typed dozens of them
some years ago (unless it's been changed) when my CO found out I could type without errors - it wasn't my job but it fell into my lap, as it were, when I had some spare time. ;-)

4. Good. Glad to hear it.
At least they'll get the veterans benefits they deserve.

They shouldn't have been tossed in the first place.

5. And there's way more true irony in it than you can imagine.
Well, you might...
