WTF? McCain's Divorce Ended So Well, He & His Mom "Unintentionally" Sued His X-Wife Carol

McCain and his mother don't recall old lawsuits

By MATTHEW BARAKAT, Associated Press Writer Sat Aug 16, 5:50 AM ET

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Republican presidential candidate John McCain's divorce was amicable enough that he and his ex-wife jointly brought a lawsuit 10 years later to recover damages for lost mementos, but it wasn't amicable enough to prevent McCain's mother from suing his ex-wife to get back some personal property.

Both lawsuits were settled out of court decades ago and before they went to trial, but records of them are kept in the archives of the city courthouse in Alexandria.

Curiously, although the records clearly list the plaintiffs, McCain's campaign says that the Arizona senator didn't know about or authorize the 1990 lawsuit with his ex-wife, Carol, and that his mother's 1980 lawsuit was filed "unintentionally." And McCain's 96-year-old mother, Roberta, says she never sued Carol.

But others involved dispute those assertions.

In the 1980 lawsuit, filed shortly after John and Carol McCain divorced, Roberta sued Carol to reclaim some personal property, including paintings, a needlepoint screen and a pair of earrings. A settlement was reached in 1981.

1. Maybe their beautiful minds can't be bothered with
little things like making a disabled woman's life more difficult that need be.

2. Classy people, those Mccains.. Can you imagine the conversation with the lawyer?
Well y'see my son found himself a rich young whore, so he needs to dump his wife & 3 children..and I want MY stuff back that I gave Carol when she was his wife,..

yeh, I know they were gifts & she waited for him, but he needs a pretty young wife..not an old looking one who's crippled..so can we sue her and get my stuff back?

6. So the media are finally interested in covering the fact that McCain's divorce
was not all sunshine, roses, years of paid-up hospital bills, and oodles of understanding forgiveness vis-a-vis the woman who got dumped in favor of Cindy?

Wow. :wow:

This is HUGH.

I don't really mean this the way it sounds, because I think he's a scuzz for what he did, but we may in the end be grateful in a way for John Edwards' peccadilloes. Because it's like they broke down the door and gave the media "permission" to talk about what McCain did way back when--a topic that many of them were not even touching with a 10-foot pole before, unless they were foreign media and thus removed from the fray.

I didn't think they were going to go there. I thought they were going to do the usual It's OK If You're a Republican/It's OK If It Was a Long Time Ago And Your Wife Forgave You/It's OK If You're a War Hero, So Long As You're Not a Democrat, In Which Case You Are Unfit for Command treatment. But apparently not.

Hmmm.

17. What were you thinking?
But I know what you mean. I hate it when I accidentally contact lawyers, have them draw up papers, sign them and then authorize them to drive to the court house, pay a filing fee and then have them show up to court. Jeez. I must have done that three times last week alone.

8. Lying even when there is DOCUMENTED evidence: they really do rely on the Kelly O'Donnell's of the
Free Ride Media world to just take their word for it and move on.

He's a Maverick, no need to look at the court records.

10. Gotta watch them unintentional lawsuit filings
If you're not careful, they just happen as easily as forgetting your car keys.
Could happen to anyone. Why, I used to file lawsuits unintentionally all the time
when I was younger and a bit more careless. Nowadays, I only do it once in a while,
maybe once a month, max........

15. You've got to be kidding. This is wholly indicative of his character in two ways--
Edited on Sat Aug-16-08 10:14 AM by wienerdoggie
first, he lied when asked about the suits. Second, that he would characterize his divorce as "amicable", and yet tag-team with his mom to sue this poor woman that HE ran around on and left. Americans have a right to know that their potential President is a cold-blooded, heartless, vindictive liar.

18. How do you "unintentionally" sue someone?
I trained and worked in law until my mental health collapsed, I can't remember anyone accidently suing someone else. Last Tuesday, I filed for bankruptcy. Filing a suit involves a lot of form filling and waiting around, how the hell do you do that "unintentionally"?
