"Why won't America and NATO help us?
If they won't help us now, why did we help them in Iraq?"-- DJIMALI AVAGO, a Georgian farmer, on the US military not coming to Georgia's aid

1. Because nobody sane wants a world war between the EU, the US, and Russia.
An ethnic conflict is not worth a possible situation that escalates out of hand due to poor communication, militarism, and rank nationalism that ends in a nuclear holocaust.

2. The farmer
most probably isn't fully aware of the situation other than his own personal circumstances.

Perhaps the reporter should explain to him that using Iraq , another country which was invaded , isn't necessarily a very good example.

3. Poor innocent Georgia!
Launching an unprovoked attack, slaughtering thousands of innocent people...and dumb enough to have believed John McCain would send in the US military to help your 16% favorable ratings president with his ethnic cleansing.

4. Because they're not about "helping people"...
they're about getting you to do their dirty work for them.

5. He should be asking his president that
And I still think Saakshavili was under the impression he could get away with it and hide behind the U.S. I'd be curious to know just how much people like Randy Schueneman convinced him that the U.S. would help. It was interesting how he specifically mentioned McCain the other day. Could it be that he thought the US would back his play? He couldn't have thought Russia wouldn't drop the hammer, just look at Chechnya, Russia's been harshly repressing them for a long time now, with little media attention.

6. This situation will not be solved until the Yukoshenko/Shakisvilli crime family is disolved.

7. 'cause they were used.
They were, no doubt, led to believe that the U.S. would
do lots of good things for them. They were lied to. They
were used.

But the U.S. doesn't have the money or the troops to do
anything - and Putin knows this. Georgia is a pawn, one
that is quite exposed and largely unprotected.

One would think countries would learn about such
behaviors. They could ask Rummy's ol' best buddy
Saddam. Oh..wait...Saddam wound up dead, didn't he?

8. For the same reason we left the Iraqis who helped us out to dry.
There were some that cooperated with America in the start of the war and were promised protection, and even relocation to America. They had to leave the country or risk retribution after the promises were found empty. You'd think foreigners would learn by now- you're just there to be used.
