Poll question: Should airline flights initiate an alcohol-free policy?
Edited on Sat Aug-16-08 02:21 AM by adsosletter
After reading an article on trouble caused by drunken passengers on a flight: "Holiday flight is diverted after mid-air brawl breaks out." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1045660/Holiday-flight-diverted-mid-air-brawl-breaks-out.html ,and having read many accounts of belligerence due to alcohol consumption on flights, I wonder if it would be wise for airlines to initiate an alcohol-free policy on flights?

What say ye?

I'm headin' fer the "reading chair;" I'll check back later. :hi:

1. I dunno. My own flying experiences have been better, knowing that some of the very nervous
passengers have had a drink or two.

2. Not at all... flying on commercial airlines REQUIRES alcohol consumption!

4. My flights from SFO to JFK have resulted in my need for an assist dog.

3. A waste of time/how to initiate airline insubordination
Get real. Incidents of alcohol fueled air rage are few and far between. They're like booze fueled subway crime. The only reason they're news is because they're so rare. Let the people who have a deep-seated fear of flying have a few. Not too many. Prohibition in the air would be just about as ineffective as prohibition on the ground was.

And, no. I'm not an advocate of getting royally tanked at 35,000 feet.

5. I say, definitely not.
This is, for the most part, overreaction. Flight attendants should be able to figure out when someone should not be served alcohol. Agreed, there is no reason for passengers to be intoxicated during the flight, but it's too "nanny state" to prohibit alcoholic drinks.

6. Absolutely Not!
The older I get the more restrictions are imposed upon me.

Enough is enough.

Many of those involved got a head start...bar at the airport or whatever. The longer the layover the more the drinks the more the belligerence.

8. I couldn't afford to get loaded on airline/airport beer.

What's a can of airline beer cost now days? $5-6 dollars?
Xanex is much more effective and it is covered by my insurance.

10. People are the problem, not the alcohol
Unfortunately, there are plenty of assholes in the world.

They are assholes boarding the plane sober, and they are still assholes after a couple of drinks.
