but fucking nbc is such a whore that they have taken all of the enjoyment out of it.

I dvr'd it cause they had to show the gymnastics at 11 on a thurs. and watching it knowing who won is fucked.

I give up. Fuck NBC. AND THEIR SPONSORS. FUCK YOU ALL, YOU FUCKING THIEVES.

1. The Olympics are Only Sports!
Our priority should be getting Obama elected in November!

21. So you won't be doing anything entertaining until after November?
Edited on Sat Aug-16-08 08:07 PM by Forkboy
You wont watch a movie or tv, read a book, listen to music, go for a walk, etc?

2. I'm sick of them only showing the same 4 sports.
There are 34 sports (at least) in the Olympics, and some of us don't have cable. Maybe we could show a few others in prime time?

I'm sick to death of swimming and beach volleyball.

11. You need to check out the rest of the NBC stations
I've watched weight lifting, boxing, equestrian, ping pong, soccer, baseball, tennis, basketball, regular volleyball, and I don't remember what else. You need to check MSNBC, CNBC, USA, Oxygen. DirecTV actually has stations 750-756 dedicated to the olympics.

I've been home sick this week and done a lot of channel surfing. :hi:

17. I finally fibbed to them and said I had DirectTV, so they'd let me
watch the other sports online. Much more entertaining and no annoying announcers. I especially like handball and badminton.

3. would you prefer that they had the gymnasts compete at 6 am so you could watch at 6 pm?

There's a 12 hour time difference. Live with it.

In simple terms...Olympic events are great.

It is now 2:09 p.m. in Beijing.

10. Typical DU rudeness ...
There are other options the network could take ...

I think of all the young girls who missed the exciting Individual All Around .... all the possible inspiration ... lost ....

Then I think about your admonition to them, to 'live with it' .... Even though it would be possible to alter schedules even slightly to help those young women see what heart and dedication can do for the human spirit ....

Shrugs .... There is always Miley Cyrus .....

23. chill out
My "admonition" was to the OP who was nearly hysterical in complaining that they either had to stay up and watch it live or record it and watch it after the fact. Well, yes. That was the choice. The other choice would be to have held the event early in the morning so it would be prime time in the USA. Do you think NBC is solely responsible for making this call? There are millions and millions more viewers in other parts of the world -- and its being televised in all of those countries too. Why should the US viewers get special treatment. Could NBC have done something different, like waited until the next day and shown the event on tape? Sure, but that wouldn't have satisfied the OP would it? They would've known the results, which is one of the things they complained of.

So what exactly are the other options NBC had?

5. Get over your horror. When stuff happens half a world away,
and time zones count, you are being unrealistic. How old are you? Haven't you ever seen this before?
You worry about the wrong things~!

6. And don't forget , they always try to show events in which Team America is
winning. If it came to a choice to broadcasting conclusion of a Marathon we were losing and a tiddlywinks match in which we were going for the Gold, I'd put my money on the latter being broadcast.

Remember, as we are so constantly reminded, each of our athletes "has a dream" and is there for the gold. As for all those foreigners, I never have figured out why they bother to show up.

24. really? Cause I just finished watching pretty extensive coverage
of the women's marathon -- a race in which the USA was never really in contention.

Edited on Sat Aug-16-08 01:02 AM by DesertRat
It seems like that is all that's on in the evening when I watch. Volleyball with a little bit of swimming thrown in every hour.

18. Yeah, that's one sport that's a bore to watch
I stayed up to watch gymnastics which I do enjoy watching. I don't know if, as the night goes on, they get to shot-put or pole vaulting, but I get weary of the same sports being shown over and over too.

12. I've been watching gymnastics in prime time on the Canadian CBC
I don't think NBC expected the gymnasts to do well so they weren't featured. The American gymnasts have done well, but the Chinese have dominated.

Only problem with the CBC is that they feature the Canadian gymnasts and not so much the Americans. I'm on the west coast.

14. Being on the West Coast is why they are in prime time for you
If you are on the east coast it shows 3 hours later timewise. At least they are showing them live instead of everything on tape.

16. The point is if the Canadians can do it on the west coast
NBC could do it on the west coast. Instead we are treated to hours of volleyball.

19. Different philosophies...
CBC puts a premium on showing events live. NBC would rather show it on tape delay, so they can build a story around it.

Men's 100m sprint final this morning was a perfect example. It's probably the premier event at an Olympic competition, and NBC was showing men's basketball while CBC was showing the final live.

I much prefer the live coverage.

Sid

20. I much prefer the live coverage too
especially gymnatics...I'm tired of having everything spoon fed to me. I don't need NBC to build a narrative for me so I can understand what's happening.

Beach volleyball is extremely boring for hours on end.

I'm pretty much watching CBC, but I'll watch NBC when Phelps goes for his eighth medal.
