Or, can one be so right-wing that he is on the Left?

2. Possibly
I've been called a right-winger a dozen times in the last few weeks, here. Nevermind the 65,000+ posts, and numerous anti-war marches and leaflet handouts

3. The French have a saying about this:
Les extrèmes se touchent. -- The extremes touch one another.

There are certainly authoritarian lefties--we have lots of them on DU!

6. No, that's one of those bits of "wisdom" that people always deliver...
with that patented oh-so-profound nod of the head.
It's akin to "celebrities always die in threes"

7. I suppose it's possible that, at some point,...
...the wild and wooly end of the anarchist spectrum might blend into the wild and wooly end of the libertarian spectrum, thereby completing the circle. Whether anyone could actually make the full circuit without their head exploding is another matter, however.

11. Well, consider the "liberal" nanny state threads here
pushing government regulation of everything from trans fats to smoking to pornography.

Most disturbing are the inevitable posts advocating suppression of opposing points of view--shutting the opposition down rather than countering the message. To me, that is the epitome of going so far left that you turn right.

14. The results are the same
Extreme Leftist and Extreme Rightist governments result in tyranny where the other side is not allowed to enter the debate.

17. I think that intolerant fanaticism of any sort is fundamentally right-wing
I don't think that being far-left on its own makes you right-wing; but the authoritarian far-left have always ended up as essentially right-wing. An authoritarian government run on dogmatic left-wing ideology is essentially a theocracy, and has the same disastrous flaws as any other theocracy.
