I was picking up my ToGo order and I see these two women coming out of the restaurant. Something about their body language stood out and I gave them a second look as I put my ticket in my purse. They must have been in their twenties, obviously hospital workers by what they were wearing. What made them stand out was the girlish, quiet glee they seemed to share. Like they knew a secret that nobody else knew. Every now and then they would lean into each other to talk in whispers, and they walked slowly -- in absolutely no hurry, as if they were trying to make the moment stretch. And then you saw it. They were holding hands as they walked passed by. Keep in mind that my area is conservative to the hilt and these displays NEVER occur in public. So, I probably wouldn't have looked again, except that I had to leave the parking lot and, for some odd reason, they were walking with that same absent-minded gleeful manner as they crossed the area I needed to drive through. They were completely oblivious of my car as they held hands, leaning on each other as they made their way to their car. It definitely felt like there was change in the air.
Then, again, they just might have been two heteros who just left happy hour.
