You're so vain... You probably think this song is about you. Don't you.

When John made his decision to run, despite this skeleton in his closet, there were at least 8 other excellent Democratic candidates ALL of whom were - as only he knew - more viable than himself. But he asked us to push those more viable candidates aside, and to cast our lot instead with John Edwards. Let's assume that he truly and deeply cares about the issues he championed, and about the importance of removing the Republicans from power. Why then did he choose to put his causes - our causes - at risk, and insist upon running? He gave us the answer to that himself: narcissism.

He still thinks - and his defenders on this board still think - that this song is about HIM; his sexual morality, his privacy, his family, his tragedy.

True Democrats, true progressives, are loyal to a larger cause. We are committed to the sustainability, freedom, and peace of this planet, and to the generations yet to inherit it.

BE ON NOTICE: Any would-be-Democratic-office-holder who might in any way harm those goals had better step aside.

1. Lyrics
Edited on Sun Aug-10-08 04:18 PM by SCRUBDASHRUB
You walked into the party like you were walking onto a yacht
Your hat strategically dipped below one eye
Your scarf it was apricot
You had one eye on the mirror as you watched yourself gavotte
And all the girls dreamed that theyd be your partner
Theyd be your partner, and...

Youre so vain, you probably think this song is about you
Youre so vain, Ill bet you think this song is about you
Dont you? dont you?

You had me several years ago when I was still quite naive
Well you said that we made such a pretty pair
And that you would never leave
But you gave away the things you loved and one of them was me
I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee
Clouds in my coffee, and...

Youre so vain, you probably think this song is about you
Youre so vain, Ill bet you think this song is about you
Dont you? dont you?

Well I hear you went up to saratoga and your horse naturally won
Then you flew your lear jet up to nova scotia
To see the total eclipse of the sun
Well youre where you should be all the time
And when youre not youre with
Some underworld spy or the wife of a close friend
Wife of a close friend, and...

Youre so vain, you probably think this song is about you
Youre so vain, Ill bet you think this song is about you
Dont you? dont you?

2. "ALL of whom were - as only he knew - more viable than himself."
One thing that still makes my blood boil is when he approached Hillary after a debate and said they should get rid of the "not serious" candidates .
I think Kucinich, Dodd, Biden or Richardson, and even Gravel - were serious - and much more qualified than Edwards. Your statement helps explain why he wanted them off the stage.

3. All politicians are narcissists,
as are DUers who feel they have a right to define "true Democrats, true progressives."

You are entitled to your opinion, as I am entitled to mine, but the last time I checked no one had died and appointed you sole arbiter of what makes a "true Democrat" or "true progressive."

Get over yourself why don't you?

6. Many of those 'more viable' 8 have a few skeletons, too.
You just don't know about them.

And good luck with finding that perfect office holder! Good look finding that perfect anyone.

8. If any of the 'more viable 8' have skeletons, they owe it to us to pull themselves out of the way.

11. this implication that "everybody does it" is beginning to piss me off...
Edited on Sun Aug-10-08 06:38 PM by DeadElephant_ORG
I'm hardly wet behind the ears. In fact, I'm twice divorced. So I know what it's like to be imperfect. And I don't expect ANYONE to be perfect.

But everybody doesn't sleep around while their spouse is dying. Everybody doesn't announce that they'll be you-tubing themselves so that the whole country can get an inside picture of what their lives are really like... while secretly fucking the videographer. (Actually, this so-called videographer had NO EXPERIENCE shooting video. He met her in a bar, and hired her for this responsibility, apparently with the intent to fuck her. They must have laughed together at these ironies.) And finally, everybody doesn't run for President.

If you're nowhere near perfect enough to get elected, don't fucking run.

Kucinich Lashes Out at Limiting Debates
Jul 13 03:35 PM US/Eastern
By BETH FOUHY
Associated Press Writer

NEW YORK (AP) - An angry Dennis Kucinich lashed out at John Edwards on Friday, saying his Democratic rival showed "a consistent lack of integrity" by suggesting fewer candidates should participate in presidential forums and then trying to explain his remark to reporters.

"This is a serious matter and I'm calling him on it," Kucinich, an Ohio congressman, said in a telephone interview Friday. "Whispering, trying to rig an election, then denying what's going on and making excuses. It all reflects a consistent lack of integrity."

Kucinich's comments came after Edwards and Hillary Rodham Clinton were overheard Thursday discussing the possibility of limiting the number of participants in future presidential forums.

In an exchange captured on camera and open microphone by broadcasters after an NAACP forum in Detroit, Edwards approached Clinton onstage and whispered in her ear.

"We should try to have a more serious and a smaller group," Edwards said, and Clinton agreed.
"Our guys should talk," Clinton said, complaining the format had "trivialized" the discussion.

Kucinich, who typically polls in the low single digits, clearly felt the slight was directed at him. All eight Democratic contenders took part in the program, including Barack Obama, Bill Richardson, Chris Dodd, Joe Biden, Mike Gravel and Kucinich.

Both Edwards and Clinton were asked about the exchange Friday, and offered different explanations.

In New Hampshire, Clinton seemed to lay responsibility on Edwards.

"I think he has some ideas about what he'd like to do," she said, adding she liked participating in the forums.

For his part, Edwards told reporters in Iowa that he wasn't in favor of barring anyone from future gatherings. Rather, he said he wanted to see them separated into two groups of four each, chosen randomly.

"The result would be that we would have a much more serious discussion and people would actually be able to see what the differences are between us," he said.

Kucinich called Edwards' explanation "disturbing" and said he planned to contact Edwards and Clinton immediately to demand an apology.

"I accept their offer to participate in a debate with just the two of them," Kucinich said. "John should be happy with this, since he wants a small group."

Kucinich's bitterness toward Edwards was somewhat ironic, given the boost he gave Edwards in Iowa when they were both running for president in 2004.

Kucinich, who is very popular with a small but ardent group of liberal activists, asked his Iowa supporters to back Edwards if they didn't meet voting thresholds in any of the state's precincts. That effort increased Edwards' final delegate count in the state, putting Edwards within striking distance of winning the caucuses that year.

10. Any presidential candidates who have sexual indiscretions
Should at least have the judgment to pick partners who won't spill the beans, and the intelligence to stay away from reporters...

I know it sounds silly, but it is actually extremely important. Things like this set people up for blackmail. That is my main consideration. I am not judging the indiscretion, or even the lying. In our society though, this behaviour is dangerous.

we don't judge his morality, but the consequences of his morality on our party, our country.

and we didn't make the rules nor do we applaud the attitude of all these victorian puritans in this country.
as other posters have said, 'it shouldn't be this way' but it is.
