"Smith said her daughter stepped off the school bus and asked whether Smith knew that King was shot in the head while putting on his tie.

"I wasn’t expecting for her to be subjected to that, and I really felt horrible for sending her to school that day," Smith said."

Ohio State's Lantern also chimed in:

"One of the main complaints of the parents is the audio version of the book contains too many detailed graphics. The book, originally published in 1989, raises questions about how many details we should expose children to when we teach them history: Should we tell them completely and precisely what happened at Auschwitz? Or the numbers of Africans who died while en route during the North Atlantic slave trade?

Obviously, we must teach children the truth, but The Lantern believes that it is sometimes necessary to abstain from all of the details during a child's formative years.

The book mentioned in the article has been in print for almost 20 years. Reviews on Amazon.com and BarnesAndNobles.com did not show any criticism of the book and, for the most part, unabashedly praised its contents."

1. Misleading post
The book was given to 5 year olds. I agree w/ the parents.

I wanted my son to learn counting, reading, and behavior in kindergarden.

3. At whatever age they start learning what's false, they should begin learning what's true.
