     I'm sorry for another thread added to the 500 that have
already been posted today, but I just heard about this a
little while ago, and I am FURIOUS with him. How COULD he? How
could he do that to his wife, who is sick with Cancer, and his
family that believes in him? How could he dare run for office
while keeping this a secret? He lied to Elizabeth, he lied to
his children, and he lied to us. 
     I used to respect the man, but no more. I'm sorry, but I
REFUSE to look the other way or pretend it didn't happen. I'm
only grateful he DID NOT win the primary, or we'd be screwed
right now.  
     It's a terrible disappointment...to a lot of us, I'm
sure. I'm saddened, but I'm very angry with him, disgusted
even. 
     John Edwards...you are a selfish bastard. Shame on you. 
     That is all.

By Monday, it will be about DEMOCRATS, about LIBERALS, about Hillary and Bill and declining morals...and (barrrrf) FAMILY VALUES.

And probably about Obama, too. They will attempt to use this to lever away any support Obama may have gotten from evangelicals he has been courting.

11. The takeaway from this is that affairs hurt wives, children

friends, colleagues, etc. In the case of a politican, it undermines the causes they claimed to have believed in and then makes you wonder if anything they said was ever real. I learned a real lesson with Gary Hart. But I too really liked and supported Edwards and this both saddens me (for Elizabeth, their children, his supporters) and angers me (John).

And yeah, I've been hearing grumblings for some time on DU that Edwards is not authentic...I thought otherwise...
seems I was wrong.

12. I heard the news on the radio as I was leaving the house this morning

for my doctor appointment. I almost pulled over because a wave of nausea hit me. I didn't want to believe the stories but I also knew the the NE had gotten some stories right before, but I wanted this to be wrong.

I believe he lacked judgement when he ran this year knowing this, but what is done is done. If he had won or been chosen for VP, it could have been a disaster for our party, and the country.

This is now between Elizabeth and John. Elizabeth, I am sending you love and hugs at this time.

16. He did it because he could.. and he thought he could get away with it.

No one robs a 7-11, expecting to get caught, and I'm sure he decided that he could get away with it too..

Who knows? Maybe his great love for Elizabeth was rooted in routine and then pity.. A guy with political aspirations dare not divorce a woman who has or has had cancer. That would make him an utter cad!...but if he can sneak some in on the side, without having to account for it, why not try it...no matter how unlikely he is to get away with it..

The math does not add up for me..

He says the affair was for a short time, back in '06, and he told Elizabeth about it.. BEFORE "it came out".. That strains credulity for this wife of almost 39 years..A guy who thinks he's gotten away with it, does NOT confess.. men confess when they get caught, andf not a second before..

And why did he fly out here to "visit" her and the child (another guy's kid) LAST MONTH.. If he confessed to E, two years ago, why would he still feel the need to "visit" an ex-lover, two years after the fact..when he was on the verge of becoming a cabinet member of a presidential administration..

The child is 2 years old...and yet he is not the father..some other guy is..another married guy...so she was screwing TWO married guys ?? and she would have been 40 then.. I don't know many 40 year old women who are as careless (or fertile) as she was.. unless she planned to try to get pregnant and then scam someone out of some money...

His aspirations for higher office may have been what kept him in his marriage..For a guy who loves and respects his wife & family, he chose an odd way to show it..
