1. I am really torn about watching any of this, though I do like some
of the events. I guess I'll have to see how it goes.

5. I'm listening to a former Olympian on Air America right now,
who was to cover the Olympics but whose Visa was revoked at the last minute, most likely because he was a member of a pro-Darfur group.

I don't have to make a decision - I don't get NBC - but it would be a tough one. All the athletes are always so excited. A great feeling of We Are The World. But this has been so manipulated by China... :puke:

8. The USOC President Avery Brundage kicked Tommy Smith and
John Carlos out of the Olympics in Mexico for raising a black power salute - their civil rights protest.
That was 1968 brother. Nothing new here.

12. I was torn, too, but...
my son's Chinese tutor called him about an hour ago. She was so excited about the ceremony and wanted to make sure he watched it. She's very proud of her heritage and her fellow people. For all of the failures of the Chinese government, I think it's important to remember many good people simply want to be liked and admired by the rest of the world.

14. The Chinese in the Caribbean are oozing with pride
and they should be - it was the most spectacular opening ceremony ever.

20. My wife is in China now
she's Chinese, but is there on business... she couldn't sleep the whole day. She was nervous before the opening ceremonies and too excited afterwards.

6. Agreed, but it's a butt-ugly stadium at night.
What the hell were they thinking with that lighting??

10. Picture it in muted blue spotlights.
Eye of the beholder and all, but I think it would have made for a better image.

18. I will be watching and rooting on all of the atheletes. They
sacrifice so much to get to the Olympics, the least I can do is watch and root. Our country is slowly becoming what we think China is so we hardly have a whole lot to berate them on.
