1. I could never reconcile his Senate record and his current political positions
So something was amiss for me that kept me from supporting him despite his platform. Seems like there were a number of disconnects going on there.

13. Exactly.
"Morally, I am against gay marriage", he said out of one side of his mouth.

Out of the other side he apparently had no problem talking his way out of honoring the vows he took.

I'm always so amused by people that don't think gays should be married because of the SANCTITY of the union,
but then go cheat on their spouses. Weren't so worried about god and the fuckin bible when you wanted to fuck now were you?

HYPOCRITES.

3. Well, much as I liked his anti-corporate stance, I always wondered...
...if he was a snake oil salesman.

7. He is now.
Prior to this revelation, he was a likely pick for a cabinet spot.

6. Sad that you rate the affair up there with the other two.

His private life and state of his marriage is his concern, not ours.

Lying about it (instead of just saying "no comment") IS a concern... but not a major problem for me.

Voting for the war and the Patriot Act WAS and IS a huge concern, and that's why I couldn't support him for President.

8. The fact that he was carrying on an affair while running for the nom
is what irks me. People knew--they always do. Had he won the nomination (thank God he didn't), there's your October surprise, all ready to go. Surprise!

12. It showed a shocking lack of judgement...
but it didn't kill anyone... and didn't restrict my freedoms or damage the constitution of the country I love.

14. Of course not.
But "shocking lack of judgment" isn't really a quality I look for in a political leader.

9. I'd gladly vote for him today, if I could.
No other presidential candidate helped us in New Orleans like he did.

11. Did Elizabeth know about the affair before/after her hard work, despite illness, for J's campaign?
Edited on Fri Aug-08-08 04:21 PM by Dover
Ya see, it's not so much that he had sex out of wedlock, an affair.
It's so much more...about his character.
But then he lost me long before this on character issues, when he worked for and profited from a hedge fund company. "Populist" indeed. I just don't trust his motives, nor his fidelity to the American people.

...The populist candidate - who has denounced such lenders - invested $16 million of his $30 million in assets in Fortress Investment Group. The Wall Street Journal reported that 34 New Orleans homeowners struggling to overcome Katrina's aftermath faced foreclosure suits from subprime-lending units of Fortress.

John? Not so much. I was never much of a fan, and this confirms it for me.
