Tom Feeley who runs informationclearinghouse.info threatened!
Edited on Fri Aug-08-08 09:56 AM by EarlG
Just received this email - pretty damn scary!

---------- Forwarded message ----------

My friend Tom Feeley is in Big trouble. He runs the web site informationclearinghouse.info which updates "news you won't find in the corporate media" every day. The site is strongly anti-war.

Tom has gotten his share of death threats over the years, but what happened this week is a lot more serious.

Two days ago, Tom's wife found three well dressed men in their kitchen. The man who did all the talking, told Tom's wife (I won't give her name) that Tom must "Stop what he is doing on the Internet, NOW!" As crazy as it sounds, he pulled back his lapel and showed her a gun of some kind which she could not identify. Like I said, Tom has been threatened before, but nothing like this. 4 years ago, he was in a parking lot at Long's Drug store in Southern California and when he tried to open his door to get out, a man in a car next to him opened his door at precisely the same time which prevented Tom from getting out. Then, a 40-ish year old man got out of the passenger side of the vehicle and approached Tom saying, "You need to stop what you are doing on the web".

Tom said the man was overweight and had his shirt untucked. Tom was taken aback, but (after collecting himself said) "What the fuck? Who do you think you are telling me what I can do?"

The man answered, "Tom, I'm just giving you some good advice. You should take my advice, Tom."

This is all I know about the incident. Since, then, there have been occassional death threats, but nothing like what happened on Sunday. Tom's wife is hysterical and has not returned to the house since the incident. She contacted the FBI but the FBI said their was nothing they could do. Tom and his wife separated recently after a 30 year marraige, so he is publishing from a different location.

The well-dressed man told Tom's wife that he knew where her son lived, what line of work he was in, and how many children he had.

Last night, Tom's son and a friend cruised the neighborhood where his mother lives to see if anything strange was going on. They came across two men in a car a half-block from their mother's home using their laptops at roughly 12:30 AM. When Tom's son and friend approached them, the car sped off. Tom, does not know whether this is connected to his situation, but it is definitely suspicious.

I talked to Tom this morning and he is getting by, but he's clearly upset. I do not know his plans, but I know he is ditching his cell phone and (I assume) will have to go underground as much as possible. He plans to keep publishing.

I'll tell you this about Tom Feeley; he is no bullshitter. He is the "real deal" and completely committed to exposing the mob that is presently running our country. He does not understand why, (as he says) "They are reaching down SO far to get someone who just runs web site". But, the truth is, they are. Someone wants him to "shut up" and they apparently have the muscle to do it. He knows he is in danger.

I will probably only hear from Tom infrequently from this point on. But I will update information as I get it. Tom, knows some of the best writers on the Internet---many of them speak out regularly and forcefully on issues of civil liberties and war. Anything they can do to draw attention to Tom's situation will greatly improve his chances of getting through this ordeal safely. Beyond that, I have no idea of what can be done to help.

Mike Whitney

89. Oh, and 'going underground' is the last thing he wants to do.
Take a lesson from G. Gordon Liddy; When in doubt, scream and shout.

He needs to become as visible as possible.

There are many people that would love Sibel Edmonds to have an 'accident', but so long as she stays nice and visible, she's safer.

These assholes can't operate in the light. Think of them like vampires... only not nearly as cunning; they can't get to you if you're in sunlight. I've been there myself, just not at the same level.

Edited on Fri Aug-08-08 09:10 AM by Mr_Jefferson_24
...but what you're saying does make the most sense to me. Retreating and shrinking from public view, which is what these people making the threats seem to want Tom to do, is exactly the opposite of how I think one should respond. Of course, this is easy for me to say -- I'm not the one receiving the death threats. Still, I think your advice is correct.

56. Open your cell phone. Is there a litte diamond shape with a + in it, at the top.
Then the cell phone company knows where you are. This is a safety feature that allows them to find you in case you call 911 and then can't communicate. Remember it's for your safety.

Pick your brand, tracphone, whatever. Pay full price and pay the price. The last thing you want to do is go online and register it in your true name, no matter what bargain for free minutes they offer. Once you give them your credit card info, they can track you.

If you think someone is using it to track you, throw it on a passing truck. Get an other one anonymously.

If you're really paranoid, take out the flash chip and crush it before you toss it.

72. i wld venture that the FBI-total suveillance psyops has been
watching IC for a long time--they harrassed Michael Ruppert (and some others yrs ago) for his 9-11 timeline investigations...mercilessly, his office was trashed several times, he was threatened, very similar, predictable tactics by the FBI (& perhaps other interested, pissed off parties)- we are, basically, under a fascist regime-yes, elements are fighting the good fight everyday-mainly on the internet. but after 7+ yrs of bullying and the rape of the 3 branches of government, an illegal war, this is a cake walk for the FBI-getting real scary and threatening on people IS their business. IC has great commentaries, in depth investigations from "credible" sources, not bullshiters trying to make a name for themselves off terrible times. IC has been consistently quite good--and its readership has grown and been well informed, unlike, the more personality-cult type political webs. Quite frankly, I am amazed and elated they have lasted so long.

I think the content is fine (though I'd be careful there too and ask first those who are threatened before putting it up here). But you wouldn't want these same snakes visiting your friend sending the email too. Tom Feely's probably OK, since they probably already have the goods on him, but make sure to be careful not to corroborate any "theories" they might have in going after his family, etc.

Thanks for the info though. It really gives one pause to think.

A year and a half ago, not long after the attorney scandals became public, I thought my house was broken into right after I called Waxman's committee's office advising them to investigate some info i'd come across locally that involved a prominent congress critter and one who hasn't been indicted yet. I've talked to others here that also take many precautions for their heavy activities in researching wrongdoing around here. I think it might be scarier than we think it is.

There's a butt load of ciminal players who will try to present themselves like "homeland security" or feds or whatever but they aren't. They can be anything from RW political operatives to low grade mafia types. Don't fall for it, stay on the grid, in the network and increase information about you, don't decrease.

Edited on Thu Aug-07-08 05:14 AM by formercia
so he can't be id's on store video. Buy enough minutes for a short period, and when they expire, get a new phone. His contacts should do the same. Security on one end won't cut it.

Using a computer from a fixed location is just making it easy for them to monitor, that's probably what the guys in the car were doing. Do like them, go mobile and wardrive. Get a high gain directional wifi antenna and a high power wifi adapter to allow accessing an open wifi hot spot from a distance. Don't use unencrypted hot spots if possible.

Trust no one.

encryption on his wireless, WEP is dated and won't cut it, its easily hacked by brute force. Also watch those wireless home phones, get phones with cords. As far as cells, he should enable tracking and have a third party track him. Security around his home is a must, motion sensitive cameras.

23. Or they can just be jacking off.
I was pretty activist and got on a lot of lists. In Seattle, I had the feeling they were keeping an eye on me, but they were pretty slick. However when I went home to a small remote town in Colorado to stay with my folks, the attention was insane, we were followed, cars in front of the house all the time, people charging on to the property to take photos. Total dick-in-hand stuff. It was as if there were people all over paid to watch "people of interest" but in this small town they had never had an opportunity, so they were WAY over eager.

The point is that this could be the same thing. InformationClearingHouse.info is not a particularly big stuff where things break, like wikileaks or cryptome. So its a good chance you've got some local goon trying to show he's ready for the big time, but the big time people really don't care.

There's not much you can do about surveillance. Getting pissed-off and screwing with them will just get you in trouble an ensure that their replacement will make your life miserable.

Keep a journal and record descriptions, tag numbers, time and date and, if you can do it discreetly, get pictures.

The only recourse is to sue them. You won't have a case without evidence.

Lead them on snipe hunts. My favorite is to lead them into the woods, preferably, the dankest, bug-infested swamp that I can find.

Make sure it's far enough away from the nearest motel, that they have the choice to camp out there with you or get up at 4 in the morning to commute.

How do you propose to deal with an armed home invasion? It's happened to me, except it was 5 armed speed freaks that came to rob me.

You don't want to piss them off. Bruce Lee you aren't

Get a good security system with plenty of video and conceal the cameras and the video recorder. If you can, install a duplicate recorder that's easy to find, so if they look for one, they only get the easy one. Be sure to let someone reliable know where the hidden recorder is, so if you 'disappear', someone will know where to look for it.

If you play deaf, dumb and stupid, after a while, they usually close the distance to try and see how close they can get.
If you're not breaking any law or doing something they can use to discredit you, they're just wasting their time.

The Soviets were real good at surveillance. They were easy to spot because they dressed so badly. I used to say hi to them. It was fun to watch the expression on their faces.

One of my co-workers and I stopped in a pub in Crystal City after work and there was a group of Russians at a banquet table having some sort of celebration. All except one were typical KGB lowlifes in very wrinkled and ill-fitting suits except one case officer that looked like a young Putin. He obviously didn't want to be there. He was well dressed and totally out of place. We were making like very bad surveillance and he looked like he was about to break and run for the door.

We laughed for days over that one.

Law Professor: Counter Terrorism Czar Told Me There Is Going To Be An i-9/11 And An i-Patriot Act

By Steve Watson

Tuesday, August 5, 2008 -- Amazing revelations have emerged concerning already existing government plans to overhaul the way the internet functions in order to apply much greater restrictions and control over the web.

Lawrence Lessig, a respected Law Professor from Stanford University told an audience at this years Fortune’s Brainstorm Tech conference in Half Moon Bay, California, that “There’s going to be an i-9/11 event” which will act as a catalyst for a radical reworking of the law pertaining to the internet.

Lessig also revealed that he had learned, during a dinner with former government Counter Terrorism Czar Richard Clarke, that there is already in existence a cyber equivalent of the Patriot Act, an “i-Patriot Act” if you will, and that the Justice Department is waiting for a cyber terrorism event in order to implement its provisions.

10. i love the fbi's reaction
i have been getting incredibly serious and specific death threats for almost two years now and the FBI has failed me over and over. there was one time that a photo of where i had just been arrived in my email when i had gotten back to my computer and in the title was the exact word i had used because i was shopping for a specific item. that indicated someone close enough to hear me. FBI? well in their "professional" opinion, there was not enough evidence and nothing supporting my concerns. i went to a place i generally don't go, no where near my home, looking for a paul frank monkey watch and on that particular day i get an email from someone sending me frequent death threats that is titled monkey watch and a picture of the place i had just come from. argh, i wish i could tell you all more. but i have been advised not to discuss it. law enforcement is a fine piece of work in this nation.

why do you suppose he was targeted? out of all the web sites, what does he have on his that makes someone nervous? does he cover mob, drugs, what?

Its probably the reason I've been a recipient of harassment for some time as well, also witnessing similar individuals with computers in their cars around my house and other privacy invasions.

31. Israel has agents in this country.
They were present in the country before nine eleven, posing as art students, among other things, casing buildings. They've got a long reach, but it could be anybody.

Why is it scapegoating? There are a lot of articles and videos on that site very critical of Israel.
It's not difficult to imagine some jealous defenders reacting to them.

...the fact is it could be anyone, but more logically it would be someone "homegrown." Some here quickly blame just about everything on Israel (sometimes Jews). Don't for one minute think 'progressives' can't be bigots. Though not a liberal site check out judicial-inc (.biz) and you will see some of the most offensive shit....keep looking, and you also see many of those "theories" make their way here.

he needs to contact the local police. I can see why the Feds would be reluctant to become involved because they have no way of knowing, at this point, if it is some sort of domestic/drug/misc/etc blah blah blah.

Next, he needs to impress upon his kids not to seek out problems. Let the police handle it. People that carry guns are not to be reckoned with. He needs to be very vocal and make the police go check out guys on laptops...etc. Not the kids!!

He can buy tracphones which are pre-paid cells which do not require any personal information. He just needs to stay so aware and don't try to be a hero...

WHAT WAS COINTELPRO?

"COINTELPRO" was the FBI's secret program to undermine the popular upsurge which swept the country during the 1960s. Though the name stands for "Counterintelligence Program," the targets were not enemy spies. The FBI set out to eliminate "radical" political opposition inside the US. When traditional modes of repression (exposure, blatant harassment, and prosecution for political crimes) failed to counter the growing insurgency, and even helped to fuel it, the Bureau took the law into its own hands and secretly used fraud and force to sabotage constitutionally- protected political activity. Its methods ranged far beyond surveillance, and amounted to a domestic version of the covert action for which the CIA has become infamous throughout the world.

HOW DO WE KNOW ABOUT IT?

COINTELPRO was discovered in March, 1971, when secret files were removed from an FBI office and released to news media. Freedom of Information requests, lawsuits, and former agents' public confessions deepened the exposure until a major scandal loomed. To control the damage and re-establish government legitimacy in the wake of Vietnam and Watergate, Congress and the courts compelled the FBI to reveal part of what it had done and to promise it would not do it again. Much of what has been learned, and copies of some of the actual documents, can be found in the readings listed at the back of this pamphlet.

HOW DID IT WORK?

The FBI secretly instructed its field offices to propose schemes to "misdirect, discredit, disrupt and otherwise neutralize "specific individuals and groups. Close coordination with local police and prosecutors was encouraged. Final authority rested with top FBI officials in Washington, who demanded assurance that "there is no possibility of embarrassment to the Bureau." More than 2000 individual actions were officially approved. The documents reveal three types of methods: 1. Infiltration: Agents and informers did not merely spy on political activists. Their main function was to discredit and disrupt. Various means to this end are analyzed below. 2. Other forms of deception: The FBI and police also waged psychological warfare from the outside--through bogus publications, forged correspondence, anonymous letters and telephone calls, and similar forms of deceit. 3. Harassment, intimidation and violence: Eviction, job loss, break-ins, vandalism, grand jury subpoenas, false arrests, frame- ups, and physical violence were threatened, instigated or directly employed, in an effort to frighten activists and disrupt their movements. Government agents either concealed their involvement or fabricated a legal pretext. In the case of the Black and Native American movements, these assaults--including outright political assassinations--were so extensive and vicious that they amounted to terrorism on the part of the government.

SNIP

DID COINTELPRO EVER REALLY END?

Public exposure of COINTELPRO in the early 1970s elicited a flurry of reform. Congress, the courts and the mass media condemned government "intelligence abuses." Municipal police forces officially disbanded their red squads. A new Attorney General notified past victims of COINTELPRO and issued Guidelines to limit future operations. Top FBI officials were indicted (albeit for relatively minor offenses), two were convicted, and several others retired or resigned. J. Edgar Hoover--the egomaniacal, crudely racist and sexist founder of the FBI--died, and a well-known federal judge, William Webster, eventually was appointed to clean house and build a "new FBI."

Behind this public hoopla, however, was little real improvement in government treatment of radical activists. Domestic covert operations were briefly scaled down a bit, after the 60s' upsurge had largely subsided, due inpart to the success of COINTELPRO. But they did not stop. In April, 1971, soon after files had been taken from one of its offices, the FBI instructed its agents that "future COINTELPRO actions will be considered on a highly selective, individual basis with tight procedures to insure absolute security." The results are apparent in the record of the subsequent years:

84. FDR started the CIA, well, sort of.
Roosevelt had long been fascinated by secrecy and intrigue, so as Assistant Secretary of the Navy during World War I, he had worked to build up the Office of Naval Intelligence's capabilities. The real story, however, begins in 1938 as Roosevelt, awakening to the danger of war and fearing internal subversion (a very real threat to him specificly), began paying more attention to gathering foreign intelligence. Without a professional intelligence service to turn to, FDR asked some of his wealthy—and globally connected—friends to undertake missions overseas, even as he tried unsuccessfully to get the FBI and military intelligence services to cooperate.

Couple years later, COI, OSS and other alphabet agencies were born and eventually morphed into the likes of the CIA and the NSA. He also used intel extensively domestically, and set a precedent for future presidents. This gave rise to Hoover, and others, that weren't perhaps so altruistic about "civil rights" (frankly, FDR was no civil libertarian, ask the Japanese-Americans). As Stalin rose to power, and there was much worry of containing the Russians, domestic spying became pretty prevalent, as the threat of the "reds" on domestic soil, sleeper agents and the like, became ever more politicized to a country that was becoming more informed and connected by national news distribution, it was almost accepted by a populous until the McCarthy era brought some very harsh criticism.

FDR had a stiffy about spying and he did most of his own analysis of the raw data himself during the war. There are several good references on it. Between that and some other questionable (in my mind) acts, such as the 1933 gold confiscation act, he might not have been the great savior that everyone today expounds. Actually, it could be said that the only generation to really buy into the whole FDR thing is the boomers, because they bought into the ideas that he and then later LBJ (Great Society) proffessed. The boomers bought the idea of Social Security, and other alphabet social programs, and their long term feasibility, because even through their rebellion in the 60's, they still held the fundamental idea, albeit naive by todays standard, that generally people and government care about society and what happens to the individual. Ask anybody over 70 who lived through it and anybody educated under thirty, and they probably will have a different view of FDR than the conventional boomer. Actually, FDR should be admired for creating one of the longest lasting control mechanisms ever invented, second only to Christianity. The beauty of that plan was the people understand cause and effect, you pay in, you get back. He had to do something in the late 30's to quell a public uprising, and get people back to work and to stop thinking about insurrection. Poor and nothing to lose times 50-60% of the country leads to things like the 2001 Argentina uprising.

Sorry so long and sorry i am such a cynic.

113. Well, I might be guilty of a thread hijack, but a little critical thinking
goes a long way towards understanding what is happening to us as a society and as a functional political cooperative. What I was attempting, is to frame our current situation against a historical backdrop, and trying to reason future success against the current trend of "how did we get here' and "oh no were screwed". If a study of history and the effects, intended or otherwise, are a threat to sensibilities, then perhaps we are further down the road than previously thought. I do not think that I am calling Democrats naive, nor is my way of "looking" at things drawing an allegory. I was simply trying to illustrate the many tangents that history has taken that got us to here, while injecting a little factual basis which led me to the conclusion that a truly free people must think for themselves and that even our most revered statesmen were in fact human, and so enjoyed imperfections like all humans do. Is this not the SAME set of critical thinking skills and objective factual thought that we as a party and a country wish had occurred prior to the election of the current POTUS??

I think programs and institutions can be saved, and actually benefit many more within society, but without a firm grasp of the cause and effect relationships, and the many variables that got us here, we are not using any sense of logic to formulate a clear path forward. Instead, we are engaged as a society and a party, in the worst kind of PROGRAMMED RESPONSE to a cleverly orchestrated Machiavellian play, that can only lead to a sharply self-limiting spiral to the lowest common denominator.

SO when we can stop pulling the typical Republican ploy of calling each other out as somehow "unpatriotic" to the core beliefs of a political party, and start to engage in crafting honest solutions, perhaps we can begin to make some headway and salvage some vestige of the ideals that we all hold so dearly.
Beyond that, lets face it, if you are 100% for everything that any party or affiliation stands for, you (not you personally) have bigger problems than my being here.

This party is a cooperative, made of like minded, but succinctly different people, with different experiences, upbringings, and ideas. That is the true "diversity" we so desperately uphold, not race, creed, color, or gender. Those things only serve us in forming our ideas and paradigms, not dictating them.
If I don't belong here just somebody let me know, as unfortunately I was under the assumption that this site promoted intelligent dialog and rational discussion, if not I will happily bow out.
Thomas Paine once said something along the lines of "Time tends to make more converts than reason"

And could well be the instrument of your death, tasers and other "non-lethal" weaponry proving to be all too lethal after all.

At the very least, I'd expect them to plant bogus evidence in or close to the house and just miraculously find it as they're leaving.

And they're getting a lot worse very quickly as more and more departments sign up for paramilitary training with Blackwater. Oregon state police, never known as an enlightened group, have been through various Blackwater courses, which couldn't possibly be good news for the general public.

I'm surprised Tom told Mike Whitney about this, and further that he posted about it. I too had a visit from THE MAN in 1996, and in the following ten years I only told two people about it. Sometimes I wonder if what seems like my act of cowardice was the right thing, but I am always encouraged by the fact that members of my family are alive to this day. Having a gun pointed in your face has a way of putting things in a little different perspective.

there about the war and everything else about this regime, against the increasing toll it could take on any human being, there would be no shame on him for taking a holday from it all, and seeing how he feels about it in a few months time. The world will go on, they will continue to do what they've been doing all along whatever he does.

I know, particularly with red-blooded Americans, it goes against the grain to buckle even in the path of a Leviathan but, imho, there's little if any percentage in continuing at this time. In spite of the truly courageous epic work he has evidently done to date. He deserves the chance to unwind and take it easy for several life-times.

I should listen to the program again and post back relevant parts of it that might apply to this case. If I can, I will.

Also, I recall the show telling about how the people being harassed kept records of who/what/when and turned it over to their congressional rep. For a number of people, this method worked.

86. I dont know any of the people involved
not even by reputation.

But these tales are becoming common, it seems. What can we do? All I can come up with is that we need to make them pay us ALL this kind of attention. There are more of us than them. More average everyday normal people than those who would be watchers and enforcers. How can I make them pay attention to me, that it might be that much distracted from someone who is doing something actually important?

105. Are you suggesting that over 270 high profile government officials
...have been silenced and shut down due to outright threat or innuendo of harm to themselves and their families??

If that's true -- and I sincerely doubt it -- then it's even more pathetic than I thought. That many Dems fearing for themselves and their families could easily get together and go public about what's being done to them. Also The Man isn't so stupid that he'd even hope to keep so many people silent indefinitely. What's he gonna do if they all talk??

The reason they don't dare do the right thing is because most of them have compromised themselves and know they'll be dragged down in the muck as well if they act, is all. Pervasive corruption is the glue that binds them together, not threats.

97. Information Clearing House is THE place to go for the best on current events in the ME
I have been hooked on this site for years, it's the only place on the net where you know what's reported can with little work be verified somewhere else within the next few days. It's like my daily Bible and whoever is threatening the owner ............... well, PISS OFF!!!!

On a side note, as punishment for referring to those very articles at Information Clearing House on a certain popular board, I was reported to someone high up ............. the troll at the board even put the phone numbers for others to call in, within an hour every phone call I got or made had a distinctive click - for months. Paranoia maybe, but they are afraid of this site, because it contains too many inconvenenient, embarrassing truths.

What on earth is going on. They didn't scare off Feeley, God bless him. But what kind of place
has this become when the agends of ??? spread fear to deny a basic freedom.

It's all the more outrageous when you consider the critical role Information Clearinghouse plays
in the distribution of honest, actionable news to everybody.

...The spotlight is where Tom needs to be. He needs to wire himself with recorders, wire his apartment/house and the same for his wife. They need to start taking photos of these thugs and posting them on the internet. He needs help from known "internet celebs" like the owners of Crooks-and-Liars, WhatReallyHappened, AmericaBlog, etc and the ACLU.

We should not try and hide from these thugs, we need to destroy them through exposure.

Cause Stalking (ISBN-13:978-0-9703092-3-5) is the least known form of stalking. It is also called gang stalking in other countries. It is performed by patriot, anti-government, and other groups and it can involve hundreds of stalkers, operating 24x7 against a lone target. Operations involve surveillance and harassment campaigns.

Primary targets can include whistleblowers, activists, Public Officials, Doctors who perform abortions and those who oppose politicians and the companies they work for. In addition, groups also select targets of opportunity. These people are not opponents of the group. Selection is based on vulnerability. Destroying a target enhances the self-image and reputation of these groups.

Their MO is identify, vilify, nullify, destroy. This book describes how groups operate, their tactics, how targets can protect themselves and how to get rid of these groups if they are operating around you.

It is a creepy world of surveillance, impersonation, and smoke and mirrors. David Lawson is a Private Investigator, licensed in the U.S. and Canada. He works cases involving cause stalking.

You can order this book online now or you can mail a check to Scrambling News at the address listed above. Only $29.95 plus $1.75 for shipping and 6% tax for Florida orders. Cause Stalking is also available at Amazon.

106. Son of a bitch...
Ok, these assholes aren't working for the government because if they were they wouldn't be stupid enough to just roll up like that where it would have been simple as pie for neighbors to see. This is probably some kind of corporate flunky trying to play tough guy, the fat, overweight retired cop wanna-be tough guy type, doing some kind of dirty work for someone who doesn't like some story that he has up on his website cuz it's exposing something, probably illegal that that person is doing.

You boy needs to get an alarm on the house and after this get himself a permit to carry concealed. If you believe in the constitution then get attached to your 2nd amendment rights and bust a cap in the next muthaf*cka that rolls up in your house threatening your family.

I know we're the liberal, enlightened ones, but for real... "Homey don't play that".

record them on your phones and videos. Set up camera's in and around his house, plus backups. Keep copies of documentation in more than one place. Make lots of noise. Let the neighbors know so they can help watch. They can't kill everyone.
