I watched the speech but maybe I missed it. I did not hear anything about urban mass transit or a nationwide world-class high-speed rail system. I heard Obama's 10-year goal and a lot of good ideas about PHEVs (plug-in hybrids) and total electric cars, but nothing about alternatives that would save beau-coup energy and reduce congestion on the grid-locked roads and in the un-friendly skies. Did I miss part of the speech?

Also, a couple of more ideas for the Democrat's energy plan: 1. Mandate a total-electric or PHEV (until even better alternatives are available) local delivery fleet for the US Postal Service, and; 2. Mandate that the gluttonous US Department of Defense comply with some reasonable program for energy conservation.

Grumman LLV, in service since 1987, has an average EPA fuel economy of 17 mpg (16 city/18 highway).

1. Obama -has- talked about infrastructure and transit investment before
Also answered a followup question I asked him back in June.

3. Well, what organizations lobby for better mass transit and high speed rail
...and what kind of financial backing do these organizations have? They seem to be mostly civic groups with little or no money

I'm not sure if those vehicles use patterns are best suited to those technologies, at this time.

Let me explain.

I've been watching the development of Polywell Fusion, lets say it ends up working and we start producing polywell reactors to generate electricity... Liquid fuels will still have some uses in 2030 or even 2050 in out of the way and in unique applications.

I see far better uses of political capital in the near future, than mandating Post Office trucks be total-electric or PHEV .
