Raw Story nominated for online journalism award
Go Lala!

http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Raw_Story_nominated_for_online_journalism_0804.html

RAW STORY is proud to announce that its investigative news series "The Permanent Republican Majority," conducted and penned by Larisa Alexandrovna and Muriel Kane, has been nominated for an online investigative journalism award by the Online News Association.

RAW STORY's investigation, "The Permanent Republican Majority" series, blew open details of the GOP's involvement in the arrest and imprisonment of Alabama Governor Don Siegelman.

Recently, the involvement of former Bush political advisor Karl Rove in the prosecution of Siegelamn was raised by the House Judiciary Committee in its debates on holding him in contempt for refusing to testify. The committee wishes to question Rove about the case.

Many thanks to all our readers and donors who make this type of reporting possible. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

The winners will be announced on Sept. 13 during a Washington, D.C. dinner banquet.

2. Now, if they just stop accepting bullshit right wing advertisements on their site

The new propaganda film about Obama is advertised in huge side boxes on the side of their site.

WTF?

I like Rawstory. I do not like that they sell out to advertisers. And, it is that type of sell out that lead down the slippery slope to becoming the enemy.

6. That may not be their choice
I think a lot of sites sign up to receive ads from Google or some other source. The ads that appear are selected by an algorithm that tries to determine which ones will address the interests of the visitors to the site.

A RW smear of Obama certainly addresses the interests of RawStory visitors more than would an ad for a new car. The bot running the algorithm isn't sophisticated enough to figure out that the ad is nevertheless a bad fit.

Be grateful! The proponents of the film probably paid for a certain number of exposures, to be placed automatically where the algorithm indicated they'd be most effective. Every appearance of the ad at RawStory is costing those slime artists money and is deflecting their ad from appearing elsewhere. (You think they want to waste their ad money on trying to reach progressives?)

3. Good deal. That prhase, "the permanent Republican majority" brings back bad memories of 2005.
After Bush had stolen the election, the cons had retained control of both legislative houses, and the corporate media was talking joyfully talking about permanent Republican domination of the governemnt (effectively telling people not to even bother voting). Jesus Christ. What a fucking nightmare. Judging by the polls, it isn't going to change soon, either.
