U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush (D-Ill.) declared himself cancer-free Monday and used the opportunity to challenge Barack Obama and John McCain to push for national health care for all Americans.
"I am a member of Congress and I have access to the best medical care in the nation," said Rush, 61, who continues to struggle with his speech since doctors removed a tumor near his jaw after he learning he had cancer five months ago.
"I can't be satisfied until every American has access to the same kind of care," Rush said.
The 1st District congressman spoke during a news conference on the South Side with several doctors from the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he received radiation and chemotherapy that has left him thinner and without hair.
