Sen. Stevens receives warm welcome in Alaska
R. A. Dillon - August 4, 2008 - http://newsminer.com/news/2008/aug/04/sen-stevens-receives-warm-welcome-alaska/

ANCHORAGE – Sen. Ted Stevens received a warm welcome Monday from supporters here at his campaign headquarters.

Stevens declared his innocence in front of the supportive crowd. This Stevens' first visit to Anchorage since he was indicted last Tuesday on seven felony counts of making false statements on his financial disclosures for the years 1999 to 2007.

"My spirits remain high and I hope yours do too," Stevens told the crowd to loud applause.

"I'm innocent of the case, the charges that have been made against me," he said. "I believe the court will vindicate me."

Stevens, 84, said he was eager to get home to Alaska. "I wanted to come home to this land and the people I know and love," Stevens told the crowd of about 100 supporters. .....

10. Look at the expressions on their faces
Particularly the young boy on the left in the first pic. The second pic is even worse—they all look like they've been sent there as a punishment for misbehaviour.

Those kids are not supporters of Stevens. They've made to show up by their parents and most of them are hating every bit of it. Most of them probably don't know enough politics apart from the crap their parents spew, so they probably look pissed off because they have lots of other things they'd rather do than stand around holding signs.

Stevens attends rally for himself, asks for trial in Anchorage
http://citizensforethics.org/node/33628

Been a busy day for indicted Senator Ted Stevens. He spoke at a rally in his honor in Anchorage, attended by among others, Bob Penney. Mr. Penney is Alaska's top political fundraiser:

Lisa Murkowski was accused last year of getting a sweetheart deal from Penney on her purchase of a Kenai riverfront lot next door to Penney's home. Murkowski denied wrongdoing but decided last summer to sell the lot back to Penney as a result of the controversy.

On the legal front, Stevens officially requested a change of venue for his trial:

Lawyers for Sen. Ted Stevens called for his trial to be moved to his home state, saying the "center of gravity" of the charges faced by the veteran Republican "lies squarely in Alaska."

Stevens' lawyers filed a motion Monday afternoon asking for the change in venue. Stevens, 84, pleaded not guilty last week to seven counts of failing to disclose $250,000 in home repairs and gifts that investigators say he received from Bill Allen, the former chief of the oil services company Veco Corp.
